Position Overview Position: Withdrawal Management Services Support Worker Report To: Manager, Withdrawal Management Services Department: Withdrawal Management Services Location: 146 Magnus Street, 71 Martha Position Type: Part-time (0.4 FTE), Permanent Wage: $20.99 - $23.62 Hours of Work: Days (07:30 to 16:00), Evenings (15:30 to 24:00) About the Company Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health centre that provides drug and alcohol withdrawal management services, health advocacy, case management, and other support for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Since 1972, MSP has aimed to address social determinants of health through a housingfirst and harmreduction approach. Job Summary MSP provides Withdrawal Management Services to individuals at two locations: 75 Martha and 146 Magnus Avenue. The primary purpose is to help participants begin their recovery journey through detox stabilization that decreases risk, supports accessing longterm treatment programs, managing external recovery needs through advocacy, and expanding resource capacity. Both sites provide 24hour support in a safe and stable environment at no cost to the participant. Staff conduct regular checkins with clients regarding their plans, goals and physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and assist with the creation of individualized detox care plans to support and guide recovery. The Withdrawal Management Support Worker functions as a member of a team in providing services designed to assist and support all who enter the program with respect, dignity, and the participant''s goals in mind. Duties And Responsibilities Engage in intake coordination and review for incoming participants of MSP Withdrawal Management Program. Oversee intake into Withdrawal Management services including the review of medical clearance forms, completion of intake assessment forms, medication confirmation and review. Administration, tracking, and monitoring of medication. Work in collaboration on medical health scenarios with the MSP Nurse Practitioner and internal WFPS resources. Build relationships including oneonone checkins and documentation for each participant. Support implementation of programming within the unit, including participation. Advocacy and referral assistance for participants to internal MSP Case Management program and external services and resources based on participants'' selfdetermined goals. Assist participants in planning, problemsolving, and addressing immediate needs, including providing meals, clothing, and hygiene supplies. Provide nonjudgmental support and resources to participants. Respond to emergency situations, assess, intervene, and document critical incidents; request assistance when needed or when an incident escalates beyond scope of role based on MSP Policy and Procedures. Ensure participants are informed of internal and external resources, services, and programs, and if needed. Ensure care provided meets professional standards. Collaborate and work professionally with all external partners. Maintain accurate and confidential electronic and paper file records. Collect and submit agencyrequired statistics on time and with accuracy. Maintain cleanliness of the program area by following routine cleaning schedules each shift. Qualifications Relevant experience working in human services preferably with adults experiencing homelessness, mental health, and substance use issues. Postsecondary education in addictions or mental health is considered an asset. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners. Compassion for working with individuals who use substances and experience mental health issues. Ability to work with a clientcentered care philosophy. Ability to apply Harm Reduction and Housing First philosophies in daytoday support of participants. Knowledge of poverty and its health determinants. Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of Indigenous culture. Lived Experience: Knowledge gained from personal experiences relevant to the role. Knowledge and application of Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls to Justice, and UNDRIP principles. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Experience working with culturally diverse populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online databases. Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check (service charges borne by employee). Current CPR, Basic First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certifications. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification considered an asset. Conditions Of Employment Ability to meet physical demands required for the role: standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, performing cleaning duties. Exposure to biohazards, including blood, bodily fluids, and syringes. Ability to work with individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issues. Ability to provide support in highintensity incidents, including medical emergencies and aggressive individuals. Comfortable working in an environment where Indigenous ceremonies and practices such as smudging occur. Ability to provide first aid when required. Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
