Job Description

SickKids is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic research team. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Drs. Christian Marshall and Ashish Deshwar to apply multiomic approaches to facilitate diagnoses in individuals with suspected rare genetic diseases. Applicants must have a PhD or MD and prior experience with human genetic rare disease research and genomic analysis. This fellowship offers the opportunity to apply novel technologies and develop analysis methods for genomic and transcriptomic data, with the possibility of working on data from other omics such as proteomics and epigenomics. The ideal candidate will be able to balance several projects, work collaboratively with team members, mentor peers and students, and support the diverse research projects of the Translational Genomics team. Key Responsibilities Analyze genome and RNA sequencing data (short-read and long-read) Interpret and classify genetic variants detected in individual patients and disease cohorts to assess their relevance to human disease. Develop, refine, and critically evaluate approaches and tools used for secondary and tertiary analysis at the individual and cohort level. Lead manuscript preparation, abstract development, and contribute to grant writing. Collaborate closely with medical scientists in genome diagnostics, clinicians from clinical and metabolic genetics genomics, and research teams across SickKids-affiliated environments. Required Qualifications A PhD or MD/PhD in human genetics, molecular genetics or closely related field Strong evidence of research productivity, including peerreviewed publications Demonstrated experience in working with genomic and other omic data Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently in a complex translational research environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Applicants Must Submit A cover letter describing research interests, relevant experience, and fit for the position A curriculum vitae A brief statement of past research accomplishments and future interests Contact information for three references Employment Type: Full-time temporary 1year contract, 1.0 FTE.
