This is a full-time, on-site role for a Legal Assistant specializing in Family Law, located in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. The Legal Assistant will support legal professionals in daily administrative tasks, prepare and manage legal documents, and ensure efficient office management. Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of legal assistant experience;Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat;Experience with Legal Accounting Software and Docusign;Strong knowledge of the Law Society legal office administration requirements and ability to follow Law Society rules and procedures;Knowledge of the Family Law Rules and Rules of Civil Procedure;Ability to take initiative, set priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines;Strong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to communicate effectively and comfortably with clients, team members, counsel, and third parties by way of telephone, email, and in-person;Strong attention to detail;Experience with client billing and accounts payable;Experience with general office administration;Experience with training, supervising, and mentoring administrative staff;Experience with file management, and working with accountants, and bookkeepers;Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills;Well organized, quick learner, and proactive with a positive attitude and ability to prioritize tasks, workload, and time; Ability to work independently with little supervision; and Ability to be a team player. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:Providing administrative support to lawyers;Managing calendars: including diarizing court dates, service and filing deadlines, ticklers, and reminders;Monthly billing;Collecting monetary retainers from clients as needed;Paying vendors and other office bills;Docketing time and electronic file management;Booking meetings, court appearances, consultations;Proofreading, drafting, editing and preparing legal correspondence;Compiling, serving, and filing court documents;Filing, photocopying, and scanning;Opening and closing files;Communicating with clients, court, counsel, and other third parties;Client hospitality / reception; andOther administrative duties as required.This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to develop their legal expertise while supporting a dedicated team.
