About the Role We are a small, communityrooted farm on Haida Gwaii, in Tlaal/Tlell, owned and operated by the Haida Nation. With six underconstruction greenhouses and several outdoor beds, we grow vegetables, herbs, and specialty crops for local markets, food programs, and food security initiatives. We operate without livestock or irrigation systems, relying on manual watering, soil health, and climateadapted growing techniques. We value local food security, ecological stewardship, and handson learning. We are seeking a Farm Manager who can lead daily operations and help grow a resilient, highquality local food program. The Farm Manager oversees the full cycle of smallscale farm production, including greenhouse management, outdoor beds, staff supervision, planning, and harvest coordination. This role suits someone who enjoys handson farm work but also brings strong organizational and leadership skills. Key Duties & Responsibilities Crop Production & Greenhouse Management - Oversee seed, transplanting, bed prep, and crop rotation planning - Manage greenhouse climate, ventilation, trellising, and pest/disease monitoring - Maintain manual watering schedules and moisture checking routines - Maintain soil fertility through composting, amendments, and mulching Farm Operations - Develop and implement seasonal production plans - Maintain tools, greenhouse structures, and small equipment - Coordinate harvest schedules for market and community programs - Ensure quality control for washing, packing, and storage - Maintain compliance with food safety practices Team Leadership & Training - Supervise, train, and support seasonal workers or volunteers - Assign daily tasks and ensure safe, efficient operations - Foster a positive, supportive workplace Market, Sales & Community - Manage produce inventory and weekly availability lists - Coordinate with local markets, retail partners, or food programs - Represent the farm positively in the community Administration - Track yields, expenses, supplies, and production data - Order seeds, soil amendments, tools, and seasonal materials - Contribute to annual planning and reporting Qualifications & Skills - 2+ years experience in market gardening, greenhouse management, or smallscale farm production - Strong understanding of crop planning, soil health, and pest management - Experience supervising small teams - Familiarity with working without automated irrigation systems - Ability to maintain tools and troubleshoot small repairs - Reliable, organized, and proactive - Able to work independently and make decisions under shifting weather conditions - Comfortable with physical work, lifting, bending, and long periods on foot - Commitment to ecological and sustainable farming practices - Class 5 drivers license - Experience living or working in coastal or remote communities - Interest in local food systems, community resilience, or Indigenous food sovereignty What We Offer - Hourly rate: $38.05 - $39.55 based on experience. - Fulltime (3540 hrs./week) with paid time off, including an additional 2week office closure during the winter break. - Competitive benefits: dental, extended health, vision care, disability insurance, life insurance, Employee Assistance Program, and pension plan. - A supportive and welcoming team environment. - Opportunities to learn and grow while contributing to the preservation of Haida heritage. #J-18808-Ljbffr
