Overview AtkinsRalis is currently seeking a Materials/Welding Engineer to join our Materials, Welding, and Chemistry Engineering Excellence team. This position is for a seniorlevel engineer who demonstrates strong technical capability and growing leadership in materials, metallurgical, and welding engineering, with a particular emphasis on manufacturing and fabrication support in nuclear and other regulated environments. Your role Lead and perform materials, metallurgical, and welding engineering activities in support of component manufacturing, refurbishment, construction, readiness reviews, shop surveillance, vendor technical evaluations, and resolution of nonconformances related to materials and field installation. Perform materials, metallurgical, and weldingrelated work in an engineering environment and prepare technical documents in accordance with AtkinsRalis/Candu Energy QA programs and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements used in the Canadian nuclear industry. Provide advanced technical guidance on welding processes, procedures, qualifications, repairs, and acceptance criteria for pressureretaining and structural components. Support and resolve manufacturing and fabrication issues, including weld quality, metallurgical condition, heat treatment, dimensional control, cleanliness, handling, and inspection findings. Support major refurbishment projects and new nuclear builds in Canada and abroad, as they relate to materials, metallurgical, and welding considerations. Serve as a technical authority in welding and manufacturing engineering, providing guidance on welding processes, procedures, qualifications, repairs, and acceptance criteria for nuclear and pressure boundary components. Develop, review, and approve welding specifications, WPS/PQRs, weld repair plans, manufacturing procedures, and technical dispositions in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and QA programs. Perform and/or support failure analyses, fitnessforservice assessments, and rootcause investigations associated with fabrication or weldingrelated issues. Interface with clients, suppliers, fabricators, inspectors, and testing laboratories to support effective technical resolution of manufacturing issues. Complete assigned scope of work and/or tasks within established budget, schedule, and quality requirements. About You Engineering degree or graduate degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline, with relevant coursework and/or work experience in materials applications. Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario would be preferred. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in materials, metallurgical, and welding engineering, with demonstrated involvement in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or refurbishment activities. Experience working in regulated or safetycritical industries (nuclear preferred) is strongly preferred. Experience interpreting NDE results, inspection reports, and laboratory test data to support manufacturing and engineering decisions. Working knowledge of CSA N285 series, ASME BPV Code Sections II, III, V, and IX, and other applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to nuclear and pressure equipment manufacturing. Direct manufacturing experience with ASME Section III or Section VIII components is required, preferably involving nuclear product fabrication. Strong working knowledge of welding engineering and manufacturing practices, including welding processes, procedure and welder qualification, weld metallurgy, heataffected zone behavior, and fabricationrelated defects. Familiar with metallurgical laboratory techniques for examination of microstructure and properties of metals (carbon steel, stainless steel) and welds of the materials. Solid understanding of manufacturing and weldingrelated degradation mechanisms, including fatigue, corrosion, cracking, and serviceinduced damage. Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team and provide daytoday technical guidance to lessexperienced staff.
