Prairie Maintenance/Conservation Technicians Friends of the Living Prairie Museum About the position The Winnipeg Assiniboine Rotary Club and the Friends of the Living Prairie Museum are looking to hire up to five individuals (dependent on funding) under the Urban Green Team and Canada Summer Jobs programs to help maintain rare tallgrass prairie habitat. Project Location: Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg MB. Project / Job Description: The Living Prairie Museum is a 12 ha tallgrass prairie preserve with an interpretive centre. The preserve serves as a living museum and offers an opportunity to experience rare habitat in an urban area. The preserve area, native seed production site, and interpretive centre are maintained regularly. Interpretive programming and events occur onsite throughout the summer. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the removal of invasive plants to protect endangered habitat Assist in maintaining a seed production site, including plant propagation, weeding, and seed collection Engage in management activities that may include sheep grazing, tree removal, or habitat restoration Maintain walking trails Assist with special event promotion and delivery, and interpretive programs when required Qualifications Applicants must be 15-29 years of age to qualify Enrollment in postsecondary education with specialization in Environmental Studies/Science, Biology, Ecology, Indigenous Studies, Horticulture or related field is an asset and may be required by funding Interest and general knowledge of Winnipegs natural areas Willingness to work outdoors (under adverse conditions, at times) Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Selfmotivated and reliable Wage: $16.00 to $17.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay Anticipated Term: 35 hrs/week.
