The Opportunity CICC is seeking a Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Partnerships a senior public affairs and partnerships leader who combines sharp policy and advocacy skills with an inclusive, team-oriented management style to build strong relationships with governments, members, and strategic partners. Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the SVP will develop and execute a strategic, collaborative team-based program that protects and promotes the interests of Canadas convenience industry, including convenience retailers, distributors, and supply-chain partners, while deepening CICCs strategic partnerships across the sector. French language skills are an asset. This role includes identifying public affairs, membership, stakeholder, and sector-partnership priorities; managing national campaigns and partnership initiatives; and ensuring a coordinated approach to issues that affect the industrys business environment and public perceptionwhile enabling the President & CEO to remain the primary media and industry face of the organization. Key Responsibilities Leadership and team management Lead and develop a highly engaged, cross-functional team of seven (including four Vice Presidents and one Director), setting shared priorities, fostering open communication, and managing performance. Support the President & CEO in strategic planning and leadership across government relations, communications, member services, events, training, data/insights, and partnerships. Public affairs, government relations, and stakeholders Help lead an integrated federalprovincial public affairs and government relations strategy, working with the President & CEO and regional advisors to identify, analyze, and respond to policy, legislative, regulatory, and political issues. Build and maintain relationships with key decision makers and influencers, and oversee the preparation of meetings, briefings, presentations, and formal submissions to governments. Communications, brand, and media Provide executive oversight of corporate communications and brand-building, in partnership with the President & CEO and Vice President, Communications. Direct strategic communications, issues management, media relations, and social media to protect and enhance CICCs reputation, ensuring industry data and insights are translated into compelling narratives that support advocacy, partnerships, and member value. Member, partner, and external relations Oversee member relations, communications, and services, driving engagement, satisfaction, and growth across member organizations. Strengthen partnerships with members, suppliers, manufacturers, and other external organizations. Corporate management and governance Lead budgeting and planning for public affairs, communications, partnerships, and external relations. Support the President & CEO in managing external agencies and suppliers, provide strategic updates and presentations to the Board, and undertake special projects and strategic initiatives as required. Candidate Profile We are seeking a: Seasoned public affairs and partnerships leader with at least 10 years experience spanning government relations, advocacy, strategic partnerships, and corporate communications, ideally in member/board-led or client-serving organizations. Proven leader with a track record of managing a senior team (5+ staff, including management-level reports) and delivering integrated public affairs, communications, membership, and partnership programs in a trade or sector-association context. Inclusive people-leader and mentor who can inspire, align, and hold teams accountable, while prioritizing effectively, multitasking across portfolios, and supporting colleagues development. Professional with demonstrated success engaging federal and/or provincial governments, sector partners, and other stakeholders, and presenting complex issues to boards of directors, senior officials, and external partners. Executive-level communicator with excellent writing, media, and presentation skills; high EQ and strong interpersonal skills; comfortable acting as a senior spokesperson when required. Relationship-builder who is mindful, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of members and sector partners, and who operates comfortably with CEOs, senior government officials, board members, and front-line members. Self-starter able to work independently in a home-based setting while leading a dispersed team and external partners, with a strong service orientation toward members, sector partners, and sponsors. Candidate with relevant post-secondary education in public affairs, communications, political science, business, or a related field; knowledge of the convenience industry or association management, and French language skills, are strong assets.
