Your Opportunity Were seeking a Junior Archaeologist with experience in archaeology or anthropology to join our Environmental Services Team in Atlantic Canada. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, this will be a fulltime permanent position or a contract position with the potential to transition to a fulltime permanent position based on performance and availability of work. Your Key Responsibilities Assist with archaeological field work and reporting under current provincial and professional requirements. Conduct archaeological walkovers: field walking at specified intervals to identify archaeological resources or evaluate archaeological resource potential. Perform test pit surveys: hand excavation of test pits along specified intervals to identify archaeological resources. Excavate archaeological test units. Stake out archaeological grids. Record and interpret soil stratigraphy and archaeological features. Identify artifacts in the field and catalogue them in the office. Prepare archaeological field research permit applications and archaeological impact assessment reports. Conduct supporting background research and prepare related permits and reports, contributing to environmental assessments. Travel to various local and/or remote field sites, with overnight travel sometimes required, and occasional 12 week shifts away from home. Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantecs HSSE Program. Your Capabilities and Credentials A valid drivers license and a good driving record are required. Able to lift 50lbs and complete physically demanding fieldwork in a range of weather conditions for up to 12hours per day while maintaining a positive, solutionsfocused attitude. Willingness to travel within Atlantic Canada and work in remote locations with overnight stays for short and long durations. Able to work effectively in a team atmosphere and independently, as required. Strong initiative with the ability to adapt to changing conditions and make independent, informed decisions. Timemanagement skills that include balancing shortterm and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlines. Strong communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and electronic communications. Knowledge of current provincial regulatory requirements relating to archaeology in Atlantic Canada (asset). Experience working with GIS software and digital datacollection tools. Experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing field programs. Education and Experience A masters degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, or equivalent, is preferred. Current graduate students in anthropology or archaeology are encouraged to apply. Academic or work experience in Atlantic Canada, particularly New Brunswick, is an asset. Typical office environment involves computers and largely sedentary work; field work may involve exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Pay Range Locations in PEI: $57,400.00 $83,300.00 Annually.
