In this Position Responsible for disassembling returned customer engines and performing detailed failure analysis to determine root causes of issues. Duties include documenting component wear, identifying defects or damage, preparing detailed reports, and working closely with engineering and quality teams to support continuous improvement. Requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and familiarity with internal combustion engines. Successful candidate for this role will be a member of the Salary Bargaining Unit-Local 240. Responsibilities Install and instrument engines, transmissions, and other powertrains on test cells. Operate advanced dynamometer test equipment for functional, durability, and development testing, including building automated test schedules with safety and operating alarms. Utilize diagnostic tools to adjust and resolve powertrain parameters according to engineering specifications. Systematically dismantle and inspect engines, transmissions, and powertrains, performing visual and dimensional checks as per teardown analysis guides. Calibrate instrumentation and measuring devices periodically. Perform preventative maintenance on dynamometer test cell equipment. Build experimental/development engines, transmissions, and powertrains, including measurements and calculations (e.g., compression ratio). Interface with engineering disciplines regarding specifications, procedures, and tools. Complete required training to support versatility. Diagnose engine, transmission, powertrain, and vehicle system issues using advanced tools, defining root causes and resolving problems in conjunction with engineers. Work with minimum supervision and make decisions based on critical assessment. Work shifts at different local Ford facilities, often with minimum notice. Maintain a clean and safe work area through housekeeping tasks. Support regular safety and quality audits. Qualifications College diploma in Automotive or related discipline. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.) Licensed Automotive Service Technician (Certificate 310S or 310T). Must be available to work in shifts (mornings/afternoons/evenings). Even better, you may have... 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanic Technician is preferred. Skilled in using measuring equipment and advanced diagnostic tools for the operation, dismantling, and reassembly of engines, transmissions, and other powertrains. Competent in the use of computers and associated software. Fluent in both written and oral English communication.
