Qualifications Third Class Power Engineering Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba At least two (2) years operating experience in a 1st or 2nd class plant Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other information technology Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work independently Demonstrated communication skills Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures Ability to display independent judgment Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population Ability to respect and promote confidentiality Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis Grade 12 education (MB Standards) Position Summary The Engineer III shall be accountable to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the physical plant and infrastructure within Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). The incumbent must ensure a constant continuous supply of steam for heating the hospital buildings and various departments. The incumbent is required to observe and comply with the Power Engineers Act for the Province of Manitoba. The incumbent will work closely with the Chief Engineer to provide support services to other maintenance personnel as may be required. Responsibilities Overview: Record in log book clearly and precisely all happenings and information pertaining to the operation and progress of the plant, any abnormalities at the time of occurrence or when first noticed, and corrective action taken. Manipulate valves to control the flow of water, fuel, steam, etc., for various operations. Test boiler water and the usage of boiler water chemicals. Perform maintenance in any part of the center on highpressure steam, chilled water, condensate lines, and compressed air systems. Troubleshoot minor problems with industrial controls such as pneumatic, electric, or electronic. Operate equipment in the plant, regulating its output and performance safely and economically in accordance with the Department of Labor and the Power Engineers Act. Read and interpret basic diagrams, schematics, and drawings of electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls and instruments to understand operation, identify malfunctions, and make corrections and adjustments as necessary. Perform routine operational system checks on equipment to ascertain readiness; during operation ensure that proper operating efficiency parameters are maintained at all operating loads. Be responsible for chemical analysis on boiler, condenser water, chilled water, and ensure chemicals are added as per prescribed feed rates or as directed. Maintain complete, accurate, uptodate water treatment logs and records. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (e.g., piping, regulators, valves, pumps, controls). Check and report status of repairs on equipment as assigned. Prepare boilers, tanks, and other equipment for inspection by opening manways, removing internals, and cleaning and flushing as may be necessary. Ensure that all work areas, benches, counters, and floors are kept clean, safe, and in orderly condition. Work is not complete until the affected area has been cleaned and tidied up. Deal with emergency situations as they arise in the plant or hospital; if the incumbent is unable to cope with an emergency problem, call qualified personnel. Follow safety regulations in accordance with the Power Engineers Act and the Steam and Pressure Plant Act for the province of Manitoba. Take extreme care in performance of tasks involving close contact with exposed hightemperature piping, rotating equipment, high voltages, high noise, temperature, and humidity. Take stock of supplies and spare parts; accept deliveries of parts. Cleans and repairs boilers and all related equipment; conduct operational checks at specific intervals in the hospital, PCH, laundry, and crawlspaces as assigned. Respond to and manage fire alarms as designated. Carry out preventative maintenance on all equipment as assigned. Monitor and maintain oxygen concentrator so that a supply of oxygen is available at all times. Perform duties of plumbing, carpentry, welding, refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning, painting, and other maintenance as personal knowledge and skills permit. In the case of inclement weather, clean, sand, and salt all entrances, exits, and ramps. Ensure safe access to the center. Cant be out of the boiler room for more than 20 minutes at a time.
