Position Information Registered Practical Nurses are responsible for practicing within their scope to provide safe, competent, ethical, evidencebased patient care using professional knowledge and critical thinking while meeting practice standards of the College of Nurses and the Regulated Health Professions Act. Essential Job Functions Assesses the health status of assigned patients on the unit as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice. Works with the patient and family/caregivers to formulate a patientcentered plan of care. Advocates for patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes within Expected Length of Stay. Utilizes time management skills to organize plan and provide care to patients. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team, promoting an environment of teamwork and collaboration. Participates in problem solving, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. Expects to attend work on a regular basis for all shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Qualifications Current Certificate of Competence as an R.P.N. Required Current CPR Certificate Required Fundamentals of Palliative Care Course Required IV initiation and maintenance skills required. Experience in medical/surgical nursing within the past year essential. Satisfactory vulnerable persons sector criminal background check. Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position. Documented commitment to continuing education through inservices, staff meetings and selfmotivated learning. Reliable and punctual. Excellent communication and customerrelations skills.
