THE ROLE Under the supervision of the Canadian Forces Newspaper Manager, the Assistant Editor assists in the preparation of stories, advertisements, posters, and other material for publication and proofreads material. They ensure stories and photos meet quality, content and deadline standards, and submit them for final approval. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED Education, Certifications and Licenses College diploma or certificate in Journalism, Communications, or a related field and some years of experience in the newspaper industry Knowledge Of publishing guidelines including marketing, design and print production principles Of various types of advertising Of layout, design, photo and publishing software systems Of bookkeeping practices Of Canadian Press (CP) style Experience In creating ads/page designs for news site In office administration In writing articles following journalism guidelines In using Web design software LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS English Essential / Bilingual (French and English) an Asset Reading: Advanced Writing: Advanced Oral: Advanced BENEFITS AVAILABLE Health Benefits: Drug coverage, healthcare spending account, virtual care (telemedicine), Employee and Family Assistance Program, mental health support, travel insurance, dental, vision, life insurance and disability insurance. As part of the selection process, the successful candidate must successfully complete a Reliability status security screening. This position typically follows a Monday through Friday, normal business hours schedule with some evenings and weekends required. START DATE June, 1, 2026.
