As a Marine Systems Mechanical Technician in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), youll operate and maintain the propulsion and auxiliary systems that keep ships and submarines running. These include: Competitive salary starting from $4,337 - $6,413/month for new recruits who join the Regular Force under the Direct Entry plan New pay increases: earn more from the start Recruiting allowance of up to $50,000 paid in installments at key service milestones Paid education and training opportunities Vacation, parental, and other types of paid leave Health, dental, and vision coverage Counseling, and relocation support services Pension plan Stimulating workplace that promotes respect, belonging, and work-life balance Overview As a Marine Systems Mechanical Technician, your primary duties are to: Read and interpret engineering sketches and drawings, including mechanical and hydraulic, pneumatic and fluid drawings Calculate ship stability and identify potential problems Fabricate, machine and weld parts and equipment Monitor, operate and maintain the mechanical machinery for the propulsion systems, power generation and distribution systems, the ancillary systems, the auxiliary systems and the damage control systems You will find a comprehensive list of the primary duties on the forces.ca website. This position is similar to the following: Marine Engineer Stationary Engineer and Auxiliary Equipment Operator Hydro Power Station Operator Arc/Acetylene Welder Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic Millwright Plumber Sheet Metal Worker Equipment Mechanic To be eligible to apply to the CAF, you must: Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada; Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except: For the Paid Education programs, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent); For the Primary Reserve, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent) and must be enrolled as a full-time student; Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondary IV in Qubec (some jobs need higher levels of education). Required Education The minimum acceptable education to apply for this position is the completion of provincial requirements for Grade 10, including Grade 10 Applied Math & Grade 10 Applied Science.
