Job Description

Primary RoleThe Electrical Systems Technologist develops electrical documentation and integration designs that support the distribution of power and data within equipment and furniture systems. The role focuses on defining electrical interconnections between computing hardware, displays, control systems, motors, and peripheral devices. This position creates electrical line diagrams, interconnect schematics, and fabrication-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) that support manufacturing, installation, and service of integrated systems. The Electrical Systems Technologist works closely with mechanical design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure electrical components are safely and efficiently integrated into product assemblies.Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical System DocumentationDevelop electrical line diagrams illustrating power distribution and signal pathways within integrated equipment systems.Create interconnect diagrams showing electrical connections between hardware components such as:PCs and computing equipmentDisplays and monitorsControl boxes and controllersLift motors and actuatorsNetwork devicesPeripheral devicesDocument routing and termination points for power, data, and control cabling.Electrical Integration and Interconnect DesignDefine electrical interconnection architecture between system components.Specify appropriate connectors, cables, adapters, and interface hardware.Support integration of multiple signal types including: AC and DC power Ethernet networking USB DisplayPort / HDMI Serial and control signalsCoordinate cable routing strategies with mechanical design teams to ensure proper cable management, accessibility, and serviceability. Manufacturing DocumentationCreate fabrication-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical components and cable assemblies.Develop cable schedules and connector lists supporting system assembly.Assist in standardizing cable kits and harnesses used in production.Provide documentation required for manufacturing, installation, and field service. Grounding and Bonding IntegrationDefine and document grounding and bonding strategies for integrated equipment containing electrical components.Identify protective earth (PE) connections between equipment such as: equipment frames enclosures and control boxes power distribution devices electronic hardwareEnsure continuity of grounding paths across assemblies and cable harnesses.Document grounding points, grounding conductors, and bonding hardware in electrical diagrams and BOMs. Electrical Safety and Compliance AwarenessDevelop electrical documentation that aligns with applicable safety and regulatory practices including those from: CSA UL CEIncorporate safe design practices related to: grounding and protective earth connections bonding of conductive structures separation of power and signal wiring safe routing and protection of electrical conductorsWork with engineering and compliance teams to support documentation required for regulatory review and product certification.RelationshipsWork closely with mechanical designers to coordinate electrical integration within physical assemblies.Support engineering teams during product development and prototyping.Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure components are standardized and available.Assist with troubleshooting electrical integration issues during prototype builds and production.Education/ExperienceDiploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.38 years of experience in electrical systems documentation, equipment integration, product development, or manufacturing support.Competencies RequiredExperience producing electrical diagrams and system schematicsKnowledge of power distribution and signal interconnectionsExperience creating manufacturing BOMs and cable documentationFamiliarity with electrical connectors, cable types, and interface standardsUnderstanding of grounding and bonding principles for electrical systems.Experience with:Electrical CAD or schematic toolsPLM/BOM management systemsMicrosoft Office suiteDesired BehaviorsMake fact-based decisions having done the hard work of obtaining actual dataLeaders who are visible, accessible, and provide coaching to encourage lifelong training and learningFoster teamwork and functional diversity in order to achieve the best solutionsEmployees who take ownership, speak up immediately, respond quickly, escalate if needed, and think like an ownerDrive continuous improvement through personal initiative and innovationLearn from failures in a positive/structured way focusing on process and other improvements going forwardClearly define goals and objectives through KPIs that are consistent with company-wide prioritiesAchieve results by consistently meeting our commitmentsFocus on whats important to our customers (internal or external)Develop a culture of celebrating our successes customer wins, improvements and demonstrated good behaviorWorking Environment / LocationCalgary, ABIn officeEvans is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Our mission is to ensure that our workforce is both diverse and inclusiveWe seek employees from a diverse talent group, if you are a member of a minority population, we encourage you to apply at Evans!
