Established in 2004, MODUS has successfully provided innovative and cost-effective building solutions to the educational, commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional sectors. Operating two manufacturing facilities totaling 200,000 sq. ft. of insulated and heated workspace, the MODUS team works to design, manufacture, and deliver building projects faster than traditional site-built methods.Role DescriptionReporting to the VP Operations, the Design Manager is responsible for leading the design function across all active projects, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, building code-compliant, and production-ready designs. This role provides leadership to internal design staff and oversees external consultants, while also supervising BIM capabilities and systems that support design execution.The Design Manager plays a critical role in driving design efficiency, standardization, and integration with manufacturing and construction operations, while ensuring scalability of processes and tools. The role balances people leadership, project oversight, and system optimization, contributing directly to operational performance.Responsibilities:Lead, mentor, and manage the design team, including BIM and external consultantsOversee design delivery from concept through construction/manufacturing drawingsReview and approve designs to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with client, budget, and schedule requirementsSupervise BIM systems, standards, and workflows to drive coordination and efficiencyEstablish and improve design standards, processes, and documentation practicesIdentify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and scalabilityManage external consultants and act as the primary escalation point for design issuesCollaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Production, Estimating, and Project ManagementEnsure all designs meet applicable building codes, CSA standards, and internal quality requirementsQualifications & Experience:Bachelors degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field.710+ years of progressive experience in design within construction, modular, or related industries.35+ years of leadership experience, including supervision of technical teams.Demonstrated experience overseeing BIM systems and design workflows.Strong understanding of building systems, constructability, and design coordination.Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Preferred AttributesExperience in modular or prefabricated construction environments.Advanced proficiency with BIM and design tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, BIM Collaborate Pro, Bluebeam).Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles.Knowledge of CSA A277 and Canadian building codes.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceComprehensive health and benefits planRRSP contribution matching programWhy Join Modus?Join a team that is transforming the construction industry through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to Building Better.
