Position Summary Solico Metal Inc. is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Steel Structure Estimator to join our growing team. This is an ideal role for an estimating professional with 12 years of experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. Working closely with our senior team, you will help transform structural drawings into accurate cost estimates, coordinate with suppliers, and support projects from the bidding phase through to final execution.Key ResponsibilitiesBid Analysis: Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand project requirements.Quantity Take-offs: Perform detailed and precise quantity take-offs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals.Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing comprehensive estimates covering materials, shop labor, equipment, and subcontracts.Procurement Support: Reach out to material suppliers and subcontractors to solicit and analyze competitive quotes.Proposal Development: Draft bid proposals, including clear scope descriptions, inclusions, and exclusions.Collaboration: Work alongside our engineering and production teams to ensure estimates are practical and align with our shops capabilities.Data Maintenance: Keep our pricing databases and historical records up to date to ensure future bid accuracy.Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.Sector Focus: 12 years of professional estimating experience. Note: Experience must be in commercial or industrial structural steel. Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of steel fabrication and basic knowledge of erection processes.Drawing Interpretation: Strong ability to read and interpret structural and architectural blueprints.Standards: Familiarity with Canadian codes (e.g., CSA) is a strong asset.Technical SkillsSoftware: Proficiency in Bluebeam (or similar take-off tools) and AutoCAD. Familiarity with Tekla or Advance Steel is a plus.Excel: Strong competency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and calculation.Industry Knowledge: Good understanding of steel sections, weights, and common coatings (primers/galvanizing).Core CompetenciesAttention to Detail: A high level of precision is critical for success in this role.Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight tender deadlines.Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal teams.Eagerness to Learn: A proactive mindset and a desire to grow within the industrial steel sector.Work EnvironmentPrimarily office-based (in-person) with visits to our fabrication shop to see the projects come to life.Collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere where you will receive mentorship and support.
