Employment Type: Full-Time, PermanentAbout the RoleConsult Mechanical Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team. This is a key position within our organization and is ideal for a highly skilled estimator with strong experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, and high-end custom residential mechanical projects.The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and complete mechanical estimates across multiple divisions, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronics, sheet metal, gas piping, and related mechanical systems.This role requires someone who understands both the technical and business side of estimating someone who can read drawings thoroughly, identify scope gaps, communicate with suppliers and subcontractors, and help position the company to win profitable work.Key ResponsibilitiesReview drawings, specifications, addenda, bid documents, and tender requirements.Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for:Commercial projectsIndustrial projectsInstitutional projectsHigh-end custom homesHVAC systemsPlumbing systemsHydronic heating systemsSheet metal and ductwork systemsGas piping and mechanical equipment installationsPerform accurate quantity takeoffs from mechanical drawings.Review architectural, structural, electrical, and civil drawings for coordination items affecting mechanical scope.Identify inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, risks, and opportunities within bid documents.Solicit, review, and level supplier and subcontractor quotations.Price labour, material, equipment, rentals, subcontractors, general conditions, supervision, and project-specific requirements.Prepare tender forms, bid breakdowns, schedules of values, and detailed estimate summaries.Work with management to develop final bid strategy, markups, margins, contingencies, and closing prices.Assist in value engineering and alternate pricing options.Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, builders, consultants, and clients.Participate in pre-bid meetings, site reviews, tender closings, and post-bid reviews.Assist with project handoff meetings to project managers and operations teams.Provide clear estimate turnover packages including scope, budget, labour assumptions, supplier pricing, exclusions, risks, and bid notes.Support change order pricing when required.Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing, labour productivity rates, and vendor relationships.Help mentor junior estimators and support estimating department standards.Required ExperienceMinimum 710 years of mechanical estimating experience preferred.Strong experience estimating mechanical projects in Ontario.Experience with commercial, ICI, and high-end custom residential projects.Strong understanding of:HVAC systemsPlumbing systemsHydronicsSheet metal / ductworkMechanical equipmentGas pipingControls/BAS coordinationAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, riser diagrams, details, and tender documents.Familiarity with union labour environments is an asset, including:PlumbingSheet metalHVAC/refrigerationExperience estimating projects ranging from small service/retrofit work to multi-million-dollar mechanical contracts.Strong knowledge of Ontario construction practices, building codes, mechanical codes, and tendering processes.Experience with public-sector or institutional tenders is an asset.Experience with high-end custom homes is a strong asset.Skills & QualificationsExcellent attention to detail.Strong ability to identify scope gaps and tender risks.Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines at once.Strong communication skills with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, clients, and internal teams.Ability to work independently while also collaborating with management and project teams.Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and estimating software.Experience with estimating platforms such as Trimble, QuoteSoft, Bluebeam, Planswift, Autobid, or similar software is an asset.Strong understanding of labour units, productivity, material pricing, equipment pricing, and markups.Ability to prepare professional, complete, and well-organized bid submissions.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a senior-level mechanical estimator who can take ownership of bids from start to finish.
