Our work supports individuals living with overlapping challenges rooted in poverty, colonialism, and trauma.The OpportunityWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Finance Controller to join our leadership team. This role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations across the organization and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Controller plays a critical role in advancing the financial health and stability of VAHS. This is a key leadership position for a dedicated finance professional who is passionate about supporting Indigenous health and wellness.Preference will be given to candidates with Indigenous ancestry.Key ResponsibilitiesManage full-cycle accounting and financial operations for VAHS and its related entitiesOversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow managementPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and funding agenciesDevelop and implement financial policies, internal controls, and accounting proceduresSupervise finance staff and foster a collaborative, accountable work environmentEnsure compliance with federal, provincial, and Indigenous funding requirementsCoordinate external audits and year-end financial processesSupport strategic decision-making by providing financial insight and analysisMonitor financial performance and recommend improvementsQualificationsBachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA designation preferredMinimum 5 years of progressive experience in finance, ideally in a non-profit settingStrong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit funding complianceProficient in financial software, including Microsoft Dynamics, Penny Payroll, and Microsoft OfficeExcellent communication, leadership, and analytical skillsExperience supervising finance teams in fast-paced environmentsAudit experience at a Big Six or equivalent firm considered an assetWhat We OfferA supportive and inclusive workplace rooted in Indigenous valuesRRSP Match PlanComprehensive benefits package (dental, extended health, vision, pension)Paid time off and flexibility to promote work-life balanceHow to ApplyTo apply, please send your resume and cover letter addressed to:Carrie Humchitt, Executive Director include Finance Controller Application in the subject line.Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.Donate andsupport our programsAs a proud not-for-profit, we rely on donations to ensure that wellness is accessible to all.
