Labour Relations Officer Wilfrid Laurier Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the exclusive bargaining agent for more than 1,500 Faculty Members, Librarians, and Archivists at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU). We are expanding our staff team and searching for an individual familiar with and committed to working in a unionized environment. As a Labour Relations Officer, you will be part of a close, dynamic, and collaborative team dedicated to promoting the interests of members by identifying and seeking resolution to issues in the workplace, providing daily service and support, and endeavouring to improve the working conditions with the University. Together with a university degree (graduate preferred) in a related field, your qualifications include a background in labour relations and experience in a postsecondary education environment. Background at the university level is preferred. Reporting to the Executive Director and President, your responsibilities will include: Providing information and assistance to members on issues relevant to their terms and conditions of employment under the Collective Agreements and WLU Policies Supporting the intake, assessment, and investigation of individual, group, and policy grievances Supporting and advising faculty Grievance Officers with representing members throughout informal resolutions and/or the grievance process Interpreting, applying, and advising on the Collective Agreements, related policies, and employment legislation Assisting the Executive Director with preparation for arbitration hearings and other litigation proceedings Supporting the collective bargaining process Maintaining grievance files, timelines, and evidentiary records Providing confidential advice and representation to members on workplace issues Assisting with the drafting of official Association correspondence and reports and any other written material as required Participating in meetings, at the direction of the Executive Director, with the University, other campus employee groups, and partner organizations Occasional travel and some irregular hours may be required in this role. Your qualifications include: A university degree, preferably at the graduate level Strong knowledge of the postsecondary education sector, preferably the university environment, typically acquired through at least 5+ years of employment experience Experience in labour relations as well as a solid understanding of collective agreements, employment benefits, and labour legislation Evidence of engaging with, maintaining, and updating databases (e.g., Mobilis or Union365) and an ability to produce datadriven reports The ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment as well as to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team Proven capability to manage a challenging and diverse workload A relational approach to interpersonal interactions, including excellent communication, advocacy, and documentation skills A commitment to fostering positive working relationships within WLUFA and the broader university community This is a fulltime position and will be part of CUPE 1281. Salary will be commensurate with experience, the range will be $80,000 to $110,000. Benefits are provided under the current terms and conditions of the 20242027 Collective Agreement for CUPE 1281.
