About the Position The Yousef HajAhmad Department of Engineering in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science welcomes applications for a Sustainable Systems Engineer for Advanced BioProduction Systems in the Emerging Leader program of the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs. The selected candidate will be an earlycareer researcher (PhD holder) who will develop Intelligent Systems that directly enhance agricultural production and onfarm decisionmaking, particularly for the grape and wine industry in the Niagara region. Responsibilities Design and deploy robotics, sensing technologies, and datadriven decision systems to address realworld production challenges in sustainable specialty crop systems. Translate research findings into impactful solutions that address challenges in Sustainable Systems Engineering. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and research technicians. Build partnerships with industry and community stakeholders to mobilize research outcomes into practice, policy, and commercialization pathways. Lead an independent research program aligned with the Impact+ Emerging Leader award and the federal strategic priority areas of environment, climate resilience, Arctic, and food and water security. Qualifications Bachelors degree in mechatronics, robotics, environmental engineering, or a related discipline. PhD in engineering, obtained within ten years of application. Evidence of research excellence and international recognition. Proven ability to translate research into impact. Eligibility to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Ontario within three years of hire (Canadian or comparable foreign licence preferred). Experience in interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects. Experience working with industry and community partners for research projects (asset). Teaching experience in environmental engineering, robotics, autonomous systems, mechatronics, control systems, or sensors and actuators (asset). Benefits and Salary $600,000 Impact+ Emerging Leader award over six years, with possible extension. Annual salary range $127,000 $140,000 for Assistant Professor or $155,000 $172,000 for Associate Professor. Partial teaching release and startup research funds. Research resources: conference support, startup funding, database subscriptions, and access to various research funding vehicles. Relocation expenses administered under the university policy.
