Responsibilities Develop an understanding of the learning profiles of exceptional students, and consult with faculty and parents to determine the need for a psychoeducational assessment Interpret psychoeducational reports from external professionals and create a students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Support faculty to develop classroom strategies to promote best practices in teaching and learning (instruction, assessments and environment) to meet the needs of all students Ensure the accommodations outlined in the IEP are being met Review and edit report cards of students on IEPs to ensure there is alignment between the two documents Provide small group and individual support for students on IEPs, students of concern and students recovering from illnesses and injuries requiring accommodations and learning plans Develop relationships with parents and provide regular communication regarding student performance Communicate with classroom teachers and mentors to keep abreast of classroom and co-curricular expectations and individual performance of identified students Lead workshops for all students in the development of executive functioning skills to optimize academic performance Inspire growth in students through mentoring and relational teaching Build relationships with external professionals for partnerships and referral purposes Understand and support student needs on a case by case basis Be involved in School life through co-curricular activities and supervision Qualifications Ontario Teachers Certificate and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers Masters degree in Special Education and/or additional qualifications in Special Education and Reading (Specialist preferred) Previous experience in education and teaching Special Education is an asset Experience with IPRCs, interpreting psychoeducational reports and writing IEPs Knowledge of the current Ministry regulations for Special Education Demonstrates a commitment and talent for educational excellence, mentoring, and boy-centric teaching philosophies Superior ability to develop authentic & collaborative working relationships with students, parents & colleagues Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills Passion, creativity, and commitment to the role, team and School mission A growth mindset, agility, curiosity and willingness to accept new perspectives and innovate Compassion, and a desire to cultivate courage and nurture connection A passionate team player and a strong contributor to a coaching culture A strong desire to become fully immersed in the Schools positive and progressive culture #J-18808-Ljbffr
