The incumbent will participate in health initiatives of the clinic pertaining to student access, campus health and work at campus and university affiliated vaccination events. Student Health Services provides primary health care to all currently registered students of the University of Guelph. Duties and Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is expected to perform the duties of the primary health care RN according to Student Health Services protocols and procedures, and is responsible for efficient and competent nursing care consistent with the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Regulated Health Professions Act. The incumbent will provide coverage as required and must have excellent communication, organizational skills, and exceptional nursing judgement. The incumbent will be prepared to operate independently and work with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds as well as young children and families. The incumbent will also work other vaccination clinics, including mobile clinics for influenza and rabies, and periodically travel to Ridgetown Campus for rabies vaccination and titre clinics. As a fulltime RN, the incumbent will receive orientation to the Information Nurse role and perform all duties of this assignment according to Student Health Services protocols, including Health Information Management processes per PHIPPA regulations. The Information Nurse collaborates within the broader Student Wellness Department and campus. Familiarity with campus and community health care resources is expected. Knowledge and experience in primary nursing care are required and include, but are not limited to, the following: Emergency care, triage procedures and assessment skills Basic Rescuer CPR certifications Knowledge of laboratory specimen collection, including nasopharyngeal swabs Experience with venipuncture, ear syringing, wound care and suture removal Health teaching in the areas of sexual health, emergency contraception, and testing for sexually transmitted infections Familiarity with allergy injection protocols and working knowledge of routine childhood immunization schedules Mental health assessments, including suicide prevention, per Registered Nurses Association of Ontario Best Practice Guidelines Comfort with harm reduction approaches to substance use and related screening tools Demonstrates values of equity, diversity and inclusion in the delivery and promotion of health care Working knowledge of electronic medical record software Requirements Undergraduate degree Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses and a minimum of 5 years of community clinic/hospital or public health nursing experience Strong assessment and health teaching skills, especially with adolescents and young adults from diverse backgrounds Strong critical thinking, problemsolving skills and a collaborative, positive attitude toward a healthy workplace, demonstrating an inclusive and accessible approach to supporting individuals health status Flexibility in scheduling is required with availability for travel to Ridgetown campus, periodic weekend and evening work.
