Tesla is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Intern to design and deploy specialized development equipment for cutting-edge vehicle battery products. This position will help drive technological advancement while working closely with crossfunctional teams. Battery development is at the heart of Tesla, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles - battery cost and performance. This internship is expected to start around August 2026 and continue through the Fall term (through December 2026) or into Spring 2027 if available. A minimum of 12 weeks, fulltime and onsite, is required. Candidates must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite. What You''ll Do Depending on placement, responsibilities may include: Design and develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and mechanical BOMs Support and troubleshoot mechanical designs on crossfunctional teams Develop and debug PLC code (structured, maintainable, reusable) Design industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A Implement controlreliable safety systems per ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA standards Support installation and commissioning of electrode mass production lines Collaborate with CAE, test, and process engineers on Liion cell component development Run FEA, Excel, MATLAB, and scripting analyses to support design validation Drive research and experiments to advance Tesla''s internal cell design knowledge base What You''ll Bring Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CATIA, AutoCAD, 3DX) Machining and fabrication experience (welding, additive manufacturing, molding, extrusions) Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Programming skills in Python; MATLAB, CFD, or FEA packages are assets Familiarity with ANSI, NFPA, LOTO, and OSHA safety standards Experience with test design, data acquisition, and statistical analysis (JMP, Minitab) Basic knowledge of lithiumion battery cell and battery design Strong technical communication skills Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
