Job Opening: Project Tenant Protection Lawyer (3-year contract) Halton Community Legal Services (HCLS) is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario that provides legal services to the lowincome population in Halton Region. HCLS is a registered charity and a notforprofit corporation under the laws of Ontario. HCLS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are committed to providing high quality legal services and responding to the needs of our community in innovative ways, through a clientcentered and traumainformed lens. HCLS has received a 3year project grant from the Halton Region Community Investment Fund (HRCIF) to deliver public legal education to tenants on their rights, as well as provide guided legal navigation and develop selfhelp tools to empower tenants to take action on violations of their rights. This position is based out of our main Oakville office and requires travel throughout the Region of Halton to our satellite and partner locations. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, recruit, and/or build relationships with tenants and Halton service providers. Identify, develop, and deliver a public legal education curriculum for tenants. Develop advice modules and tools and deliver summary advice to tenants. Provide advocacy training and skills development to tenants. Assist with data collection and analysis. Assist with technical report writing, where required. Assist with all administrative tasks and project reporting requirements. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Be a lawyer licensed and in good standing to practice law in Ontario with a minimum of 2 years experience in residential tenancies law and the Landlord and Tenant Board. Have an understanding of poverty in Halton and the unique issues and challenges our community experiences. Have experience in community development, project delivery, and developing and providing public legal education sessions. Be able to travel throughout Halton and surrounding area. Be able to work with service providers and community partners, clients who have complex needs, creatively problem solve, and work independently as well as part of a team. #J-18808-Ljbffr
