International Policy Officer Summer Intern Summer Toronto, ON, CA 11 days ago Requisition ID: 1053 Job Purpose The International Policy Officer will complete a research project to help Habitat for Humanity Canada better understand opportunities to engage in advocacy related to housing and shelter in a global context. The project will help us identify which multilateral organizations that focus on housing issues, and what role Canada plays in those institutions. It will also allow Habitat Canada to develop a plan to engage more strategically in those forums. This project will contribute to Habitat for Humanity Canadas 2026 public policy research and advocacy agenda. This role will sit in the public policy team, with regular engagement with Habitat Canadas Global Programs team and leadership. Duties and Responsibilities Identify which global multilateral organizations that Canada is involved with and are working on housing, shelter, informal settlements, and related policies. Monitor media, think tank and Canadian government dialogue on multilateral organizations related to housing/shelter, etc Produce a report identifying main organizations, topics, policy priorities, areas of investment, role of Canada, assessment of opportunities for Habitat for Humanity Canada to engage. Review Habitat for Humanity International advocacy research on climate, health and equity in housing solutions to identify areas of alignment between the report above and HFHIs messaging. Support the Public Policy team and the Global Programs team with any other adhoc requests. Attend Habitat Canada staff meetings and events as required. Qualifications Postsecondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in international development, international affairs, public administration, political science, political economics, or other social science. Demonstrated ability to use common research methods to gather information from different sources. Demonstrated record of problemsolving and prioritysetting in a fastpaced, complex, and evolving environment. Strong knowledge of Excel and MS Office. Knowledge of the multilateral institutions, summits, forums and partnerships that Canada is involved in and a basic understanding of these structures. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English. Knowledge of French an asset. Highly organized, independent, able to prioritize and detail oriented. Effective at developing positive working relationships evidenced by a track record of teamwork and collegiality. Shares Habitats values for equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. The Policy Officer works during Habitat Canadas normal office hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If located in the GTA or Ottawa, may on occasion be required to attend the office (GTA) or meetings with workinglevel government officials (Ottawa). Compensation: $17.60/Hour Contract Duration: 8 Weeks This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
