The Senior Financial Accountant plays a key role in overseeing day to day accounting operations and leading critical components of the period-end close process. Positioned between junior accounting staff and the Assistant Financial Controller, this role provides guidance, review, and support to team members while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role includes project accounting oversight, process improvement initiatives, and acting as a liaison between accounting staff, department managers, and senior finance leadership. The Senior Financial Accountant reports to the Financial Controller and works closely with the Assistant Financial Controller and other Accounting and FP&A staff members.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and prepare month-end journal entries, including review and approval of entries prepared by junior staffOversee month-end account reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of outstanding itemsReview and analyze monthly general ledger activity and variances, providing insights to managementSupervise and support junior accounting staff, including coaching, training, and reviewing work outputsCoordinate and monitor the month-end close process to ensure deadlines are metManage project accounting activities, including tracking costs, reviewing allocations, and following up with Project ManagersPrepare and review CAPEX and fixed asset reconciliations, including capitalization and depreciation entriesOversee bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies, ensuring timely resolutionAssist in the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controlsSupport audit processes by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiriesIdentify opportunities for process improvements and drive efficiency within accounting operationsAct as a key point of contact between accounting, operations, and senior finance leadershipQualificationsBachelors degree in AccountingCPA designation (completed or in progress required; near completion preferred)45 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or international environmentDemonstrated experience reviewing work and mentoring junior staffStrong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reportingTechnical SkillsExperience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Great Plains preferredAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsExperience with project accounting and fixed asset management preferredAttitude & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of accounting principles and internal controlsProven leadership ability with a hands-on, collaborative approachHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlinesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detailEffective communicator with strong interpersonal skillsSelf-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiativeExperience in a high-volume, multi-location international organization is an asset
