Client-Facing Bookkeeper for a Small, Mighty, People-First Team Hi there Im so glad youre here. I started Host Bookkeeping Systems because I wanted to build something different. The Role (what your days will look like) This is a full-cycle bookkeeping role with real client connection. Youll be: - Managing communication (email, client portal, Slack internally) - Handling full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients - Processing Dext uploads and keeping things organized - Completing month-end and preparing financial reports - Filing GST, PST, EHT, WCB - Supporting clients in a calm, clear, and kind way - Creating Loom videos to walk clients through their numbers - Helping ensure deadlines are met and nothing slips through the cracks - Supporting your teammates when needed Our clients are mostly service-based businesses and entrepreneurs. Theyre big thinkers, often moving quickly, and sometimes need help staying organized. Youll be the steady, supportive guide who helps bring clarity to their numbers. What success looks like In your first 30 days: Youre learning, asking questions, and getting comfortable with our systems and clients. Youre not expected to be perfect just curious, engaged, and open. By 90 days: Youre managing your own set of clients with confidence. Youre organized, communicating clearly, and starting to take real ownership of your work. In simple terms: Youve gone from learning to Ive got this. The kind of person who thrives here Youll do really well here if you: - Have strong bookkeeping experience (5+ years full-cycle) - Are confident with QuickBooks Online - Enjoy working with people, not just numbers - Can stay calm and organized, especially when things get busy - Ask questions and communicate openly - Take ownership of your work (and your mistakes) - Are tech-savvy and open to learning new apps (and even using or curious about AI) - Like working independently but still want to feel part of a team - Enjoy being part of a supportive, down-to-earth team - Youre comfortable being part of a visible, human brand this may include having your photo on our website or occasionally joining in on the occasional fun team content or social post (nothing forced, just being open to it). This role is NOT for you if: - You avoid client communication - You prefer doing books for just one company vs. multiple clients - You resist feedback or prefer doing things your way only - You want to come in and change everything right away - You need constant direction to stay on track - Youre not comfortable working independently from home and managing your time effectively What makes Host different We care about people. Location Were looking for someone local to the Cowichan Valley area. Your first few weeks will include in-person training and connection time with the team. Once youre feeling confident and comfortable, youll transition to working from home with flexibility and support. We stay connected with occasional in-person meetups throughout the year. Compensation & Benefits - $25$30/hour (based on experience) - 37.5 hours/week (full-time) - Extended health benefits (for full-time employees) - $500 annual health spending account (for full-time employees) - $75/month remote work allowance - Full home office setup provided (laptop, dual monitors, etc) - Vacation & sick days in line with BC standards - Stat holidays + Boxing Day Growth This role has room to grow. Over time, you could move into a senior bookkeeper role, expand your skills, and even help shape how we do things as we grow. Were open to building roles around peoples strengths.
