Job Description

Position Overview As a Construction Manager your primary obligations will be to manage all construction related activities including contract and construction administration such as change orders, payment processing, field reviews to ensure compliance with design and applicable standards and regulations, and coordination with contractors, regulatory representatives, and thirdparty utility agencies. Internally, you will be required to liaise with Project Managers, Designers, and inspectors on a variety of projects and help the Project Managers manage Aplin Martins construction portfolio. Main Responsibilities Coordinate and communicate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, Inspectors, and other team members as required. Assist the Project Team with the preparation of construction cost estimates. Assist the PM with preparing and developing tender packages and contract documents for execution. Review construction documents, including engineering drawings, and provide feedback to the project team on constructability. Review contractor and supplier shop drawings and crossreference engineering design for accuracy, manuals, guarantees, bonds and other project and postconstruction submittals for approval and dispositions. Conduct onsite observations and ensure contractor compliance in relation to construction documents and regulatory standards and resolve any onsite issues as they arise, notifying and involving the PM as required. Assist with the development of construction schedules and ongoing schedule management with the contractor, facilitating proactive solutions and communication with the Project Team and Client. Maintain regular communication with Project Managers and Clients regarding project status, site issues, and project quality. Prepare daily reports, conduct frequent construction meetings, and prepare meeting minutes on an ongoing basis. Coordinate with the Project Team to ensure project completion in compliance with contract documents and applicable regulatory requirements. Manage the construction contracts ensuring contractor work is completed within scope and identify and prepare contract change orders as required in a timely manner for PM review and approval prior to submission to Owner. Review, verify, and process contractor payment requests for Certificate of Payment. Prepare Construction Completion Certificates and Final Acceptance Certificates and the corresponding security reduction letters for municipal submission. Develop and maintain positive working relations with Municipalities, Clients, and Contractor representatives. Be an integral part of developing and refining construction management processes. Participate in the development and mentorship of junior team members. Skills and Qualifications Minimum 68 years of progressive experience in land development and municipal engineering fields. Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent) and registered as a professional with APEGA (P.Eng., P.L.Eng., P.Tech.) or ASET (C.E.T.) is a requirement. Experience in project planning, risk management, cost management, schedule management, and preparation/administration of tender/contract documents and specifications is a significant asset. Knowledgeable in applicable local municipal construction standards and specifications relating to sewer, water main and road construction materials, methods and construction processes. Ensure compliance with our company safety policies, COR requirements and OH&S standards. Having a safety mindset is important to us. Valid Drivers License is a requirement. This position requires use of personal vehicle in good working order for business use. Aplin Martin will reimburse personal vehicle use. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
