This is a temporary full-time role (12-18 months).Base payCA$52,000.00/yr - CA$62,000.00/yrAbout the RoleThe Finance & Accounting Coordinator provides support for the entire organization and its partners around finance, accounting, and related administration. The Finance Coordinator will be responsible for providing accurate, up-to-date financial information to help make informed decisions, meet our legal requirements and be accountable to funders and donors of the Salal Foundation and/or related organizations. This position reports to the Finance & Administrative Lead.ResponsibilitiesTracks income and expenses to project budgetsInitiate and manage payments through online bankingRun and maintain payroll and benefits programsProvide full-cycle bookkeeping services for several smaller nonprofits and charitiesCompile grant financial reports for fundersPrepare financial, budget, and cash flow reports for the board and managementCoordinate annual external auditsHandle statutory reporting (e.g., GST, Workers' Compensation, Charity Returns, Nonprofit Returns)Develop and articulate bookkeeping policies and proceduresSupport general administrative tasks, including maintaining a shared filing systemOther related tasks as requiredRequirementsEducation and ExperienceA minimum of 3 years of experience, ideally in the nonprofit or charitable sectorPost secondary education in finance, accounting or bookkeeping or related fieldProfessional Bookkeeper or Accountant Certifications would be an assetTechnical SkillsExperience using Google Suite applications and advanced knowledge of spreadsheets (Google Sheets)Advanced knowledge and experience with accounting software (QuickBooks)Experience with payroll systems and government reportingFamiliarity with multi-project charities/nonprofits is an assetAttributesHighly organized and detail orientedA proactive problem-solver with excellent time management skillsComfortable working in a remote, entrepreneurial/start-up environmentSelf-managed accountability with the confidence to speak up when requiredAppreciation for the importance of the greater good; the successful candidate will understand the importance of people dedicating their lives to reconciliation, diplomatism, and environmental protection within Canada, and will proactively strive to achieve these goals.ApplyPlease submit your resume and cover letter outlining how your skills, knowledge and experience make you a good candidate no later than Wednesday, September 17th.
