Registered Nurse, Surgical Services - Inpatient - Peace Arch Hospital Job SummaryWe are currently hiring Casual Registered Nurses in Surgical Services Inpatient to join our team at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. The role requires direct patient care in an acute medical unit, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, and collaboration with the interprofessional team. Collaborate with patients and families to develop care plans and encourage family participation. Participate in admission planning, discharge planning, and interprofessional communication. Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks, and refer to interprofessional teams per established protocols. Prepare and oversee patients for testing, explain procedures, and monitor patient comfort levels. Perform noninvasive vascular diagnostic tests and manage test results, including TCOM and other equipment. Collaborate with interprofessional team members to resolve issues and adjust care plans. Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance. Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families in collaboration with the interprofessional team. Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes, and referrals per practice standards and procedures. Participate on nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned. Participate in research and quality improvement activities to identify patient care issues and recommend corrective actions. Participate in ongoing education and inservice programs to maintain clinical competence. Act as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students; share information and demonstrate care activities. Provide feedback to the Manager regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs, policy/clinical decision support tools, and equipment. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing and Midwives (BCCNM). RNs performing ABI procedures must complete the Fraser Health Regional ABI course to be deemed qualified. Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed interventions. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, public, medical staff, and interprofessional team members using verbal, written, and electronic means. Ability to promote personcentered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy. Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problemsolve effectively. Ability to teach and instruct patients and families about essential topics for their health care and wellbeing. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team. Ability to use factual information, prior learning, and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant researchbased evidence. Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
