Home: Thortonview Long Term Care Hourly Range: $36.06-$54.59 Status: Casual Registered Nurse (RN) Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents by supporting the LTC Home in the administration of residents medications, treatments and assessments. The RN participates in all multidisciplinary meetings for the home to ensure the excellence of care for the residents. This is a Casual- No Line role. The environment is fastpaced and deadlinedriven, requiring high attention to detail and strong timemanagement skills. The role includes regular use of computer systems and collaboration with crossfunctional teams. Key Responsibilities Ensure resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians orders and administrative policies, while observing, recording, and reporting vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents. Assist in assessing residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents health, noting changes in condition and assess the need for referral to doctors; process and implement physicians orders. Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in inservice education. Monitor performance, conduct performance appraisals and refer problems to the Director of Care. Assist in preparing the facility for RAI MDS. Take charge of the facility in the absence of the Director of Care. Provide staff replacement in the absence of the care clerk. Knowledge And Skills Required Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. Previous managerial experience in longterm care preferred. Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices, including infection control practices. Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors. Ability to work effectively individually and with others while prioritizing tasks to handle the most urgent first. Ability to present information clearly and effectively, both verbally (in person or over the phone) and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor. Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; combine information from various sources to see the big picture and generate creative solutions. Organizational, planning, timemanagement and multitasking skills. Negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of hire date.
