We invite you to join our diverse team of innovators and collaborators.About the OpportunityThe Orthoptist is an allied health professional who specializes in the diagnosis and management of eye movement disorders and related visual dysfunctions. The Orthoptist performs specialized investigative procedures to document and diagnose eye movement disorders, interprets diagnostic data, and makes treatment recommendations to the referring ophthalmologist. The Orthoptist assumes responsibility for follow-up of patients undergoing orthoptic treatment and those requiring successive evaluation. The Orthoptist consults with the referring ophthalmologist regarding surgical or medical treatment when appropriate and counsels patients on ocular diagnoses, treatment plans, and outcome expectations.The Orthoptist performs a wide range of specialized procedures to collect diagnostic data for management and treatment of ocular disorders. Core skills include refraction, visual field assessment, low vision assessment, Potential Acuity Meter testing, ophthalmic photography, ocular ultrasonography, keratometry, optic disc tomography, and specular microscopy. This role also involves teaching medical students, orthoptic/ophthalmic medical technology students, and ophthalmology residents.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:Baccalaureate degree plus a two-year training program, or Masters degree in clinical vision scienceGraduate of an accredited Orthoptics/Ophthalmic Medical Technologists programOrthoptist certified by the Canadian Orthoptic Council; JCAHPO certification at the technologist levelPrevious orthoptic technologist experience preferredExcellent organizational, time management, stress management, communication, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to set priorities and work independentlyCompetencies in other languages are an asset; French preferredPlease ensure your resume is up to date and includes all relevant education, experience, training, and certifications.Hours1 Year, Temporary Long Assignment, part-time position (50% FTE); 37.5 hours biweeklyCompensation and Benefits$37.35 - $49.55 HourlySuccessful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.What Happens After You ApplyThank you for your interest in this position.
