Indigenous Relations Advisor (Salary) $86,007.24 $97,679.59 (Annually) Reporting to the Director Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Advisor promotes and facilitates partnerships and develops engagement strategies to address Indigenous housing needs and capacity building within the Indigenous sector. The Advisor researches and analyses to support the development of programs and initiatives that strengthen Indigenous engagement and consultation, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Indigenous communities, organisations and institutions. Candidate Profile Education & Experience Bachelors degree in Public Administration, Public Policy and Planning, Social Sciences, with a focus in Indigenous Relations Studies or a relevant field. Considerable experience in Indigenous consultation and engagement, capacity building and community development. Experience working with Indigenous associations and nonprofit societies in delivering social housing services and communitybased programmes. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer. Criminal record check required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Works closely with the Director, Indigenous Relations and key stakeholders to establish and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, organisations and institutions; conducts consultation and negotiation with First Nations regarding delivery of BC Housing programmes. Identifies partnerships and joint initiatives with other organisations and communities to expand BC Housings positive impact. Oversees execution of Indigenous Relationship agreements, providing guidance and consultation for effective programme operations. Researches, drafts and recommends policies, programmes and initiatives to strengthen engagement and consultation. Liaises with Indigenousled housing organisations to support Indigenous selfmanagement of social housing in B.C. Supports external organisations development of cultural safety programmes, operational procedures and policies. Liaises with Supply Chain Management on Indigenous Relations procurement policies, ensuring contract compliance and advising on policy development. Collaborates with the Reconciliation & Equity Strategies Team to understand community needs, identify barriers and develop strategies to support selfreliance. Enhances provincial and regional knowledge of Indigenous issues and best practices for risk, opportunity and trend analysis. Works with Corporate Research & Planning to develop performance measurements and monitor activities for Reconciliation and Progressive Indigenous Relations (PAR) certification. Monitors trends, prepares updates on initiatives, regulations, policies and legal matters; drafts materials, presentations and information for senior management. In collaboration with Human Resources provides guidance on Indigenous recruitment, retention and career advancement, analysing review results and recommending HR programmes. Represents BC Housing at government or community initiatives related to Indigenous housing, presenting or conducting studies as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of community and social issues affecting delivery of Indigenous housing. Performs other related duties, including participating on project task teams or assisting with special assignments.
