Job Description

Position Overview The Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the execution of multiple concurrent civil construction projects with a focus on industrial concrete. Operating with full site authority, the Superintendent provides senior-level leadership across crews, subcontractors, and site supervision teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as the primary link between field operations and project management. Responsibilities Oversee and coordinate daily field operations across multiple concurrent civil construction projects Provide direct leadership to Lead Hands, Journeyman Carpenters, and Apprentices; set clear expectations for performance, safety, and quality Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, project management, clients, and other site stakeholders Plan, schedule, and sequence work activities to maintain project timelines and milestones Read and interpret civil drawings, blueprints, specifications, and engineering documents to direct forming and structural activities Oversee all concrete forming operations including walls, columns, footings, slabs, and elevated decks across multiple sites Review and approve field decisions related to forming systems, shoring, bracing, and falsework design and installation Monitor workmanship across crews to ensure adherence to project specifications, tolerances, and quality standards Conduct regular site walks and inspections to identify and resolve safety, quality, and productivity issues Lead pre-job planning meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments; champion a strong safety culture across all sites Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety regulations, TES Industrial policies, and client requirements Manage resource allocation including labour, materials, tools, and equipment across projects; coordinate procurement with project management as needed Review and approve daily field reports, timesheets, inspection records, and other project documentation Identify and proactively communicate project risks, schedule impacts, and cost concerns to project management Mentor and develop Lead Hands and tradespersons; support succession and skills development within the team Liaise with engineers, inspectors, and client representatives during concrete pours and structural milestones Perform other duties as required Requirements / Qualifications Journeyman Carpenter Certificate of Qualification or equivalent trade background in civil construction Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory or superintendent role in an industrial or civil construction environment Extensive hands-on experience with industrial concrete forming is required Demonstrated ability to manage multiple crews and projects simultaneously Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to drive accountability at all levels Proven ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings and specifications Valid First Aid Certificate CSTS-2020 Common Safety Orientation (CSO) from Energy Safety Canada (ESC) Additional safety tickets (Fall Protection, Confined Space, H2S Alive, Respirator Fit Test) are considered assets Additional leadership, project management, or safety certifications will be considered a strong asset Must have own transportation to job sites in and around the city of Edmonton Valid driver''s license is required #J-18808-Ljbffr
