What will you do? Siemens Digital Industries is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Application Engineer / Specialist Automation and Drives to join our Sales Acceleration Team. As a key contributor, you will support the growth of Siemens factory automation, industrial control, and solutions across Canada. In this customerfacing role, you will work closely with the field sales organization and strategic partners to provide expert technical guidance, develop complex automation architectures, and support customers throughout the entire sales lifecycle. Technical Expertise & Customer Support Serve as the technical expert for factory automation solutions in Canada. Analyze customer requirements and develop proofofconcept system architectures and recommend suitable products. Provide advanced technical support, including onsite troubleshooting, system optimization, and commissioning assistance. Prepare and deliver technical proposals, demos, and prototype solutions. Support customers in debugging control systems, tuning machine functions, and improving machine performance. Solution Development & Implementation Collaborate with Siemens Sales, authorized distributors, and Solution Partners to demonstrate Siemens automation technologies and their unique features. Size and design automation solutions based on specific application requirements. Assists customers with commissioning machines, debugging complex drives and motion control systems and machine processes, testing and tuning technology functions, and optimizing machine performance. Influence customers and integrators on effective utilization of SIMATIC and SINAMICS products. Develop sales enablement materials, demo programs, and application notes/white papers. Support Product Marketing with launches, seminars, workshops, and customer events. Knowledge Transfer & Collaboration Deliver technical handson training, workshops and knowledge transfer to customers, Siemens teams, and channel partners. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and bestpractice guidance to engineering teams. Coordinate with Siemens HQ and Competence Centres for complex project requirements and troubleshooting/debugging complex issues. Stay current with evolving technologies and industry trends. Maintain an annual learning and development plan focused on technical and professional growth. Promote the adoption of advanced automation technologies to enhance customer competitiveness. What will you need to succeed? Bachelors/masters degree/Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Computer, Computer Science, or related field. 8+ years of industry experience with automation systems, motion control and drives in a customer facing role. Strong understanding of industrial applications involving factory automation products. Handson experience with industrial automation platforms and networks including but not limited to S7-300/1200/1500 PLCs, Redundant and safety systems, Basic/Comfort and Unified HMI panels, WinCC SCADA platforms, SCALANCE networking devices and VFDs/Servo drives. PLC Programming in TIA Portal and Step7 platforms (Ladder Logic, FBD, Structured Text, STL, S7Graph, etc.) as well as software programming experience (C/C++, JavaScript, Visual Basic, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills (bilingual preferred, English & French). Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Must be a strong communicator to explain highly complex technical topics to various customers with beginners to advanced level of knowledge in the industrial automation systems. Ability to travel nationally on short notice up to 30%. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with OEMs or system integrators.
