Addictions Specialist, Canada Summer Jobs Title: Addictions Worker, Canada Summer Jobs Type: 30+under (this is a requirement of the Canada Summer Jobs Program) Reports To: Program Manager Location: Mississauga, ON Term: May192026July142026 Placement: 8weeks, 280hours total Salary Range: $21.00 to $21.00 hourly About the Job Reporting to the Program Manager, the Addictions Worker will provide support and counselling to clients in a transitional home who have identified substance use challenges. They will also act as lead consultant on addictions, be considered an expert on substance abuse treatment, and collaborate with colleagues to determine appropriate plans of care. The role operates within a community center and transitional housing program focused on providing services to the community and youth aged 1624 who are at risk of homelessness. Duties and Responsibilities - Conduct assessments for clients identified with substance use challenges and provide counseling to those with complex addictions. - Develop plans of care, emphasizing life skills and potential mentorships. - Act as a primary worker completing casemanagement tasks with an assigned caseload; provide secondary support as needed. - Complete residential daily operations. - Lead the development and facilitation of educational programs while consulting with team members and liaising with community addictions services. - Assist youth with coping mechanisms for physical and emotional barriers. - Conduct dependency program orientation sessions. - Offer motivational interviewing using the stages of change and a harmreduction philosophy. - Assist clients in developing and maintaining community supports, daily living, and social skills necessary to obtain independence in the community. - Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to carry out recovery and support. - Integrate a philosophy of clientcentred care into daily responsibilities. - Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIPs Mission and Values. - Maintain appropriate records and ensure statistical information is kept as per agency standards. - Adhere to agency Health & Safety programs and the Client Safety Framework. - Perform additional duties as required or delegated by Management. - Administer naloxone in response to suspected opioid overdoses after completing training; this training will be provided within the first eight weeks of employment. Qualifications - Postsecondary education in Social Services, Addictions, or equivalent. - At least 2 years of experience supporting youth and/or the homeless population. - At least 1 year of experience with addiction assessment and/or treatment. - Experience with GAINSS, ADAT, or full SPDAT is considered an asset. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). - A vehicle, valid drivers license, and adequate insurance coverage. - Valid certification in First Aid & CPR. - Training in ASIST and CPI. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements - Shifts are typically from Monday Friday, 9am 4:30pm, including statutory holidays. - Certain physical effort is required; ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods. - Ability to answer and communicate telephone calls and use a computer. - Ability to lift up to 20lbs. - Vehicle travel to sites for community engagement and open doors as required.
