Construction Resident Engineer (Mechanical)Location: Remote Mining Site Northern OntarioRotation: 7 days on / 7 days off(Open to strong candidates interested in 14/14 rotations)Work Type: Independent ContractorContract Duration: Initial 1-year contract through a recruitment partner, with strong potential to extend through the full 3+ year capital project duration.OverviewOur client, a major Canadian mining operator, is building out a long-term construction and engineering team to support ongoing mining and heavy industrial capital projects.We are seeking a Construction Resident Engineer (Mechanical) with strong field execution and construction support experience within mining or heavy industrial environments. This is a highly site-focused role centered around field engineering, construction coordination, technical problem-solving, and onsite execution support.This position is ideal for an engineer who has spent significant time in the field and understands the realities of construction execution in remote industrial operations not solely office-based or design engineering environments.The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between engineering teams, construction supervisors, contractors, QA/QC personnel, and onsite execution groups while supporting multiple heavy industrial and mechanical infrastructure projects.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide onsite field engineering support during construction and project execution activitiesMaintain strong field presence through regular site walks, inspections, and engagement with contractor teamsSupport construction supervisors and contractors with technical guidance, troubleshooting, and issue resolutionPerform field measurements, alignment checks, site verifications, and constructability reviewsAct as the primary liaison between engineering offices, construction teams, and field operationsReview drawings, RFIs, submittals, field changes, and construction modifications as requiredAssist with installation and execution activities involving conveyors, shaker screens, paste plant systems, building envelopes, and other heavy industrial mechanical infrastructureMonitor construction progress, quality, safety, and compliance with engineering specifications and project standardsSupport QA/QC activities including inspections, NCR reviews, ITP reviews, and field quality verificationParticipate in pre-task planning, field coordination meetings, and progress review discussionsIdentify technical risks, constructability conflicts, and engineering bottlenecks that may impact execution or scheduleProvide technical input to support recovery planning and field execution strategies when requiredMaintain accurate field documentation including site observations, inspection records, progress updates, and photographic logsPromote and reinforce a strong HSE and Zero Harm culture onsiteCoordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including construction, engineering, QA/QC, surveying, and contract administration personnelOperate with a high level of autonomy in a fast-paced construction environmentQualificationsMechanical Engineering degree requiredP.Eng designation preferredMinimum 510+ years of field engineering, resident engineering, or construction support experience within mining or heavy industrial environmentsStrong onsite construction and field execution experience is essentialExperience supporting contractors, construction supervisors, and field crews in active construction environmentsDemonstrated experience working on conveyors, process plants, mechanical systems, industrial infrastructure, or heavy mechanical installationsStrong understanding of field construction practices, engineering drawings, specifications, and construction sequencingExperience reviewing RFIs, field changes, submittals, and construction modificationsAbility to work effectively in remote mining environments under rotational schedulesConsulting engineering or EPCM experience is considered an asset; however, candidates must demonstrate substantial field exposureStrong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills across multidisciplinary teamsAbility to work independently and make sound field-based engineering decisions in real-time construction environments#MechanicalEngineer #ResidentEngineer #FieldEngineer #MiningJobs #MiningEngineering #HeavyIndustrial #ConstructionEngineering #CapitalProjects #RemoteWork #FIFO #FlyInFlyOut #OntarioMining #ProcessPlant #Conveyors #IndustrialConstruction #FieldExecution #PEng #EPCM #MineConstruction #EngineeringJobs #MechanicalJobs #CanadianMining #MiningCareers #HeavyIndustry #ConstructionJobs
