Department: FinanceReports To: Owner / Senior LeadershipEmployment Type: Full-Time, PermanentWork Arrangement: 100% In-Office - Carp, ONLocation: Carp Road OfficeCompensation: $65,000$85,000 annually (commensurate with experience)Target Start Date: ASAPPosition OverviewAn established and growing construction/project-based business is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its in-house finance function. This newly created position reflects the companys transition from outsourced accounting support to an internal finance model, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to build and manage the accounting function from within the organization.Reporting directly to ownership, the Controller will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and cash flow management while acting as the sole internal finance professional for the business. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a standalone role and enjoys ownership over the full accounting cycle in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.The organization employs approximately 30 people operates within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.Core ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsManage full-cycle accounting and oversee month-end/year-end close processesMaintain general ledger, reconciliations, and supporting schedulesCoordinate year-end reporting requirements with external accountantsBudgeting, Forecasting & Cash FlowDevelop annual budgets and periodic forecastsMonitor and manage organizational cash flowProvide financial analysis and reporting to ownership to support decision-makingTrack key financial metrics and identify trends/risks/opportunitiesProject & Operational AccountingOversee job costing, WIP reporting, and project profitability analysisReview and approve project billings, subcontractor payments, and related disbursementsEnsure accurate cost allocation and financial tracking across projectsSupport operational leaders with project financial reporting and insightsCompliance & ControlsEnsure timely completion of statutory remittances, tax filings, and regulatory reportingMaintain internal controls, financial policies, and accounting proceduresPrepare audit-ready financial records and documentationAssist in contract review and financial risk assessment where requiredSystems & Process ImprovementManage and optimize accounting processes within Sage accounting softwareIdentify opportunities to improve financial workflows, reporting, and internal efficienciesSupport the transition and development of internalized accounting proceduresQualificationsPost-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA designation considered an asset but not required5+ years of progressive accounting experienceExperience in construction, contracting, or project-based accounting strongly preferredDemonstrated experience managing full-cycle accounting independentlyStrong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and project accounting principlesProficiency with Sage accounting software preferredAdvanced Microsoft Excel skillsStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilitiesComfortable working autonomously as the sole finance/accounting professional Work Environment & Perks100% in-office role based at the Carp Road locationPrivate company office space within a shared buildingAccess to on-site amenities, including: GymKitchen / Lunch AreaChild Care RoomCollaborative team environment with approximately 4 office staffAdditional InformationThis job description outlines the primary duties and responsibilities of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list.
