The OpportunityAdescor is seeking a Mechanical Designer that will be responsible for carrying out a variety of engineering duties including designing, researching, prototyping, and testing new products/designs. They will collaborate across departments on various design projects, using in-depth knowledge of the latest design trends and engineering software.You operate at the intersection of customer, market, and execution, bringing a disciplined, collaborative, and high-performing approach to delivering well-designed, customer-focused solutions. This role suits someone who is organized, analytical, and technically minded, with a strong ability to solve problems, drive initiatives, and consistently meet high standards.Work Location: Strathroy, Ontario (on-site)Reports to: Mechanical Engineering ManagerWhat Youll OwnDesign and develop machines and products to a high standard of quality and with high attention to detailContribute to product development and continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing existing designs over timeDesign in accordance with department standards and within schedule, cost, and quality expectationsSupport product lifecycle management, including revisions, upgrades, and configuration improvementsUtilize engineering methodology to ensure designs are scalable, maintainable, and manufacturablePrepare and validate calculations that inform and justify design decisionsProvide input and assistance in managing product and engineering changesProvide technical and engineering expertise for process improvementsEfficiently prepare original part, fabrication, assembly, layout, schematic, detail, and proposal drawings using CAD softwareDevelop and maintain standardized design elements, libraries, and documentationDesign and execute tests to validate design performance expectationsCollaborate with and support other departments, including the Quoting, Procurement, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Service teamsEffectively work with suppliers to determine and source appropriate componentsWhat Success Looks LikeDelivers high-quality, reliable designs that meet customer requirements, timelines, and cost expectationsTakes ownership of products from concept through to implementation on the plant floorApplies strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and sound engineering practices in all workCollaborates effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams to move products forwardProactively identifies and solves problems, improving designs and processes along the wayWho You AreA seasoned and technically inclined mechanical designer with an advanced understanding of mechanical systems and design principlesConfident working independently, with the ability to take ownership of design scope and deliver with minimal oversightUnderstands the importance of product consistency, lifecycle thinking, and long-term performanceA proactive problem solver who anticipates challenges and drives solutions forwardExperienced in collaborating across teams and aligning stakeholders to successfully deliver projectsQualificationsPost-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a focus on custom machinery, automation, or industrial equipmentAdvanced proficiency in SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and AutoCAD, with the ability to independently develop complex assemblies, detailed drawings, and complete design packagesDemonstrated experience leading or owning design scope from concept through to production, including real-world implementation in a manufacturing environmentProven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable designs that meet performance requirements, timelines, and cost targetsStrong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and welding and consistent application of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principlesAdvanced capability in engineering analysis and validation, including performing, interpreting, and justifying critical design calculations (FEA experience preferred)Experience managing multiple concurrent design priorities with a high degree of autonomy, while maintaining organization and meeting deadlinesHands-on experience integrating pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical/control systems into mechanical designsDemonstrated ability to identify and implement design improvements, including standardization, cost reduction, and performance optimizationComfortable working cross-functionally with manufacturing, procurement, suppliers, and assembly teams to ensure practical and executable designsExperience working in a similar manufacturing or industrial environment is considered an assetPreferred ExperienceBackground in industrial equipment, automation, or pipe processing systemsFamiliarity with PLC/HMI environments and integrated control systemsWhy This RoleThis role offers the opportunity to work on complex, custom-engineered systems with a strong emphasis on product design and see your designs come to life in real-world production environments. The hiring range for this position is $88,000 to $100,000. Salary will be determined based on experience, skills, and overall qualifications.
