Were looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead this team, driving the modernization of legacy services into scalable, reliable systems and advancing our vision of a decoupled, flexible platform that enables faster publishing, stronger observability, and future growth.As Senior Engineering Manager for our Platform Systems, youll lead and support a team of engineers delivering highquality, scalable, and secure software that advances NerdWallets product and business goals. Youll partner closely with Product and crossfunctional collaborators to shape the roadmap, prioritize work, and remove obstacles, while fostering strong engineering practices and a culture of continuous learning. Youll be accountable for technical quality, team health, and daytoday executionmentoring and developing engineers, making thoughtful technical decisions, and balancing nearterm delivery with longterm maintainability, compliance, and reliability.This role reports to the Director, Engineering.Where you can make an impact:Lead, coach, and develop an engineering team responsible for NerdWallets platform systems, including the Content Platform, CMS, and Product Data PlatformPartner with Product Managers and other crossfunctional stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and execute against the product roadmapDrive consistent execution of software development best practices, including code quality, testing, documentation, and operational excellenceContribute to and guide technical and architectural decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirementsBalance platform evolution (e.g., headless CMS, APIs, content workflows) with stability for hightraffic, mission critical systemsManage sprint planning, project timelines, and delivery commitments, ensuring predictable and highquality executionIdentify technical risks, dependencies, and delivery challenges, escalating and addressing them proactivelyFoster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and psychological safetySupport hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development for engineers at varying levelsEnsure systems owned by the team meet availability, performance, and security standardsYour experience:8+ years of relevant software engineering experience5+ years of experience as the people manager of an engineering teamProven experience delivering production software in a complex, fastpaced environment within FinTech or regulated industriesProven success owning and leading largescale content management systems and headless architectures (our current platform is built on WordPress)Proven success leading large scale backend systemsStrong understanding of the software development life cycle, agile methodologies, and modern engineering practicesSolid technical foundation with experience designing and building scalable, reliable, and secure systemsProficient in either PHP or Python, GraphQL, SQL, and TypeScriptWorking knowledge of security best practices, data privacy, and compliance considerations in financial systemsDemonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support engineers at varying levels through clear, actionable feedbackStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and nontechnical partnersExperience balancing delivery commitments with technical quality and longterm maintainabilityExperience in developing scalable web applications with SEO in mindStrong problemsolving and decisionmaking skills, with a proven ability to manage and deliver complex engineering projects at scale and on timeA passion for mentorship, crossfunctional collaboration, and creating inclusive, highperforming teamsWhere:This is a remote position and a person can be located anywhere in Canada (with the exception of Quebec).NerdWallet is proud to be a remotefirst company!
