Through connection, advocacy, system navigation, and programs, we are working to break down barriers for the neuromuscular community.We are looking for a Service Specialist in Alberta or BC to play a key role in delivering programs, building relationships, and strengthening the community across Western Canada.About the RoleReporting to the Vice President, Research, Public Policy, and Programs, the Service Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality support, programs, and services to individuals and families affected by neuromuscular disorders.This role is grounded in MDCs five pillars of service:Equipment Education Support Advocacy Information You will work directly with clients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners to ensure individuals feel supported, informed, and connected.What Youll DoClient Support & EngagementBuild relationships with newly registered clients and assess service needs Support individuals and families in navigating complex healthcare and community systems Provide referrals and follow-up to ensure access to appropriate resources Support life transitions (e.g., pediatric to adult care, evolving needs) Facilitate peer connections, support groups, and family retreats Partner with volunteers and community members to drive local impact Community Outreach & DevelopmentBuild relationships with neuromuscular clinics and healthcare professionals Increase MDCs visibility through outreach and community presence Plan and deliver workshops, educational sessions, and networking events Develop and strengthen partnerships with community organizations Collaborate on advocacy initiatives and community-based projects Work closely with fundraising teams to integrate mission and community engagement Support and grow local chapters and community networks What You BringEducation & ExperienceDegree in health, human services, or a related field Minimum 2 years experience supporting individuals with disabilities Experience navigating local service systems and community resources Experience working with or coordinating volunteers Skills & AttributesStrong understanding of disability supports and self-directed care Empathy, relationship-building, and a client-first mindset Excellent communication and facilitation skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Confidence working independently and collaboratively Ability to build partnerships and represent MDC in the community Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout Western Canada, including rural areasProficiency in Microsoft Office (experience with Raisers Edge is an asset) CompensationThis position offers a salary range of $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience.Why Join MDC?Be part of a mission-driven organization making real impact Work in a collaborative, people-first culture Opportunity to build community and influence change at a local level Engage in meaningful work that connects people to support, hope, and possibility Apply TodayIf youre passionate about community, connection, and making a difference in the lives of others, wed love to hear from you.At Muscular Dystrophy Canada, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment for all.
