Generator SpecialistLocation: Project-based across Alberta & British ColumbiaContract Type: Long-Term Contract (12+ months).Position OverviewWe are seeking highly experienced Generator Specialists to support generator-related work on hydro, gas, and steam turbine systems across Western Canada. This role is focused on hands-on troubleshooting, leadership in the field, and technical ownership. The ideal candidate has deep experience with large rotating electrical machines, can lead crews onsite, and is confident in making high-level technical decisions during outages, commissioning, and maintenance activities.Key ResponsibilitiesLead installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of generators coupled to hydro, gas, or steam turbinesDiagnose complex electrical and mechanical generator issues, including:Excitation systemsInsulation systemsRotor/stator conditionsGenerator auxiliariesSupport generator overhauls, outages, uprates, and rewinds (technical lead scope)Interpret and apply OEM documentation, electrical schematics, drawings, and test dataPerform and analyze diagnostic testing, including:Insulation resistance (IR) & PIPartial discharge (PD)Vibration analysisThermal monitoringWork closely with turbine specialists, engineers, and plant operationsLead crews and subcontractors during field executionProduce clear technical reports, recommendations, and root-cause analysesAlways uphold strict safety and QA/QC standardsProvide mentorship and technical guidance to site personnel and junior team membersTravel to project sites across Alberta and BC as requiredQualificationsDiploma or Degree in: Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Power Engineering, or a related discipline5+ years of hands-on generator experience in hydro, gas, or steam turbine applicationsProven ability to troubleshoot independently and lead field teamsStrong knowledge of:Large rotating electrical machinesGenerator protection and excitation systemsExperience in commissioning, condition assessments, and outage planningComfortable working in power plants, field environments, and outage conditionsStrong communication, reporting, and customer-facing skillsPreferred QualificationsOEM or major service-provider experience with turbine-generator systemsExposure to high-voltage and utility-scale generationExperience with advanced diagnostics (PD testing, vibration, thermal analysis)Professional designation such as P.Eng., CET, or equivalentFamiliarity with North American power generation standards and codesContract Details / Work Hours:8 hours/day Overtime after 8 hours/day or 44 hours/weekPer Diem: $75/day (food)Hotel/Lodging: Provided by clientTransportation: Rental car or car allowance providedProjects: Multiple sites across Alberta & British Columbia
