Position: Senior Cloud Administrator Duration: 6 month assignment (contract)Client Location: 227 King Street South, Waterloo, ON N2J 4C5 Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)About this opportunity:On behalf of our client, were seeking a Senior Cloud Analytics Infrastructure (CAI) Operations Engineer to support and optimize enterprise-scale data lake environments. This role sits within a high-impact operations team responsible for maintaining and evolving cloud analytics infrastructure supporting large-scale data ingestion, processing, and delivery.This is an operations-focused role (not development), requiring strong ownership of platform health, performance, and reliability, along with leadership in transitioning legacy systems to modern cloud-native solutions.What Youll Do:Provide end-to-end operational support for cloud analytics infrastructure, including data ingestion and processing pipelines.Manage and optimize AWS services including EMR, Glue, S3, and associated components.Support and lead the transition from EMR-based workloads to Snowflake-based data pipelines.Maintain and enhance data lake environments, including dataset lifecycle, ingestion patterns, and storage optimization.Monitor system performance, troubleshoot incidents, and lead issue resolution with a strong sense of ownership.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) users and enable efficient data access.Drive cost optimization initiatives across cloud services (Glue, S3, EMR).Implement automation and operational improvements to enhance reliability and scalability.Translate technical issues into business-friendly language for stakeholders.Contribute to improving platform governance, security, and compliance practices.What You Bring:Proven experience supporting cloud-based data lake environments and ingestion pipelines.Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services, including: EMR (performance tuning, operations, lifecycle management)Glue (catalog, configurations, integrations)S3 (data lake storage patterns, controls, auditing)Additional exposure to EC2, Lambda, Spark, CloudFormation, SQS, SNSExperience with Snowflake and supporting migration from legacy data processing systemsStrong understanding of data lake architectures, including curated vs. derived datasetsKnowledge of Glue Catalog, Hive Metastore, and Data Mesh conceptsProficiency in Python, SQL, and Shell scriptingUnderstanding of IAM, security, and controlled execution environmentsExperience performing schema changes and working in governed data environmentsStrong knowledge of Linux systems and ETL/ELT processesAbility to analyze performance, usage, and cost metrics to drive optimizationExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a strong sense of accountabilityProven ability to lead complex operational initiatives and collaborate across teamsAdditional Competencies:Strong debugging and problem-solving skillsExperience with monitoring, alerting, and incident managementUnderstanding of data governance and risk managementProactive, ownership-driven mindset with continuous improvement focusAbility to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiencesAdaptability to evolving cloud technologies and platformsExperience mentoring team members and leading technical initiativesNice-to-Have:DevOps and CI/CD experienceInfrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)Cost optimization project experienceExperience with tools such as Confluence, Jira, and ServiceNowKnowledge of network services, Active Directory, and IAM administrationExposure to chatbot/NLP toolsWhy Youll Love This OpportunityCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefitsFlexible hybrid work modelOpportunity to work on large-scale cloud transformation initiativesCollaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven work environmentStrong career growth and learning opportunitiesHow to apply:Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resumes in confidence via the Akkodis Canada website.Our Commitment:At Akkodis, part of The Adecco Group, were committed to making the future work for everyone.
