Position End Date: 8/31/2026 Location: MRU Main Campus - Calgary, AB T3E 6K6 CA (Primary) About This Position Working within Cougars Athletics & Recreation, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirtyfive (35) hours per week. The Fitness Shift Lead at Cougars Athletics and Recreation is a vital role focused on fostering an environment that supports the Mount Royal University community in achieving personal growth through Athletics and Recreation. This position involves overseeing fitness centre operations, assisting with personal training tracking, and supporting MOVE MORE group fitness classes. The goal is to create a safe, accessible, and inclusive fitness environment that promotes health and wellness. Shifts occur between 5:45 AM and 11:15 PM, weekdays, and 7:45 AM and 8:15 PM, weekends; shift leads must be available to work within these hours. Responsibilities Personal Training Service Delivery Mentor and observe personal training practicum students. Track and record personal training client visits. Communicate the intake process to potential clients. Facilitate orientations for youth and fitness centre users. Educate patrons on the safe use of fitness equipment. MOVE MORE Group Fitness Prepare for classes, including setting up facilities and equipment. Record and analyze class statistics. Assist with staff evaluations and program administration tasks (e.g., class lists). Ensure cleanliness in studios and storage rooms. Provide supervisors with input and feedback on the MOVE MORE program. Oversee daily operations related to the MOVE MORE program. Enforce and educate on MOVE MORE policies. Maintain equipment inventory and submit work orders as needed. Build relationships with clients through engagement, assessment, and motivation. Demonstrate professionalism in communication, attire, and punctuality. Collaborate effectively within a team. Fitness Centre Operations Supervise fitness centre associates, providing coaching and support for daily operations. Conduct facility checks to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper user conduct. Monitor capacity in all fitness areas. Address and resolve customer complaints and inquiries facetoface. Enforce facility policies and regulations. Perform equipment checks and manage fitness and recreation activity spaces. Clean and organize all fitness areas and equipment. Complete assigned tasks from direct supervisors. Understand and implement emergency and evacuation procedures. Employ strong critical thinking skills. Support various stakeholders, including academic classes, wellness programs, and rental groups. Provide fitness center tours and youth orientations. Qualifications Preferred Health & Physical Education Degree or Kinesiology Degree (or working towards) Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma or equivalent (or working towards) Personal Trainer certification or in progress (e.g., C-SEP, ACE) Specialty certifications (e.g., Older Adult, Strength and Conditioning) Minimum Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid with CPRC or the ability to obtain certification by the first shift At least one year of experience in the fitness or recreation industry Assets Knowledge of ActiveNet software Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Customer service and conflict resolution experience Salary $15.00 - $18.87 per hour Closing Date Open until a suitable candidate is found.
