Applied Learning Course On Invasive Species and Climate Change Position/Title/Fund: Applied Learning Course On Invasive Species and Climate Change Type/Term: 4 weeks through March 2026 Description: Invasive species and climate change are closely connected. Invasive species can weaken ecosystems, making them more vulnerable to climate change, while changing climate conditions create new opportunities for invasive species to establish and spread. When considered together, these pressures can compound risk and increase long-term impacts. Climate adaptation planning that does not account for invasive species may underestimate future vulnerabilities. Invasives Canada is developing a virtual learning courseon invasive species management to support land managers from municipal and First Nation governments in developing strategies that address the risks of invasive species and climate change. The purpose of the course is to increase your understanding of these risks while identifying key actions that build resilience and foster collaboration in your community. The course is free for 4 weeks through the month of March 2026. Participants will complete three asynchronous modules and attend two live sessions to support discussion and applied learning. The course should take approximately 10 hours to complete. Module 1: Introducing invasive species through a two-eyed seeing approach. Module 2: Climate change risks and management tools. Priority will be given to participants from municipal governments and First Nations. We welcome participation from Indigenous Nations and aim to support engagement through honoraria where possible. Participants providing services to land managers (or who may be land managers themselves) such as conservation authorities, nonprofits and consultants may also benefit from completing this training.
