Responsibilities: Be a good listener and communicate with children in a way that they can relate to or understand.Provide individual and group counselling services to help students to cope effectively with personal, social and emotional concerns.Frequent monitoring of the child’s progress for further intervention if required.Observing children and identifying strengths and areas of improvement.Is readily accessible to students, staff and parents.Collaborating with teachers, parents administrators and supporting agencies to work as a team to help the student.Assist students in crisis, provide counselling, and make appropriate referrals as necessary.When students need additional support, provide a list of referral resources (both online and offline resources). Provide multiple referral options and encourage parents to make a personal decision regarding the best source of assistance.Involving the parents wherever needed, so that they understand the interventions and provide support at home.Communicates in a manner which facilitates collaboration between the counsellor and administration.Abides by ethical standards, and maintains confidentiality of students and their families unless there is a safety concern, in such cases, school policy and guidelines on Child Safeguarding for BIS should be strictly adhered to.Updates and maintains confidential student records and student files.Maintain and protect the student’s record. Disclosing personal data should be under the requirement of the law or school’s Child Safeguarding policy.Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students all the time.Offering resources to students and their families will help enhance the emotional and social development of the students.Conducts Wellness sessions for students through planned activities to impart education and information relating to physical, social and emotional well-being.Keeps abreast with the latest evidence-based strategies.Provides in–service and workshops to students, staff and parents.Is responsive to the concerns expressed by teachers regarding student problems.Is responsive to the concerns expressed by parents regarding student problems.Utilize appropriate professional development opportunities.
