Roles and Responsibilities Understand the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy and theresponsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keepingwith this and other compliance policies Report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to the manager ormembers either of the senior management team (including the highest level ofmanagement) directly or through the open reporting system as per ManagementSystem guidelines Guide, advise, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vesselmaintenance Research technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions,improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance ofthe vessels Prepare for scheduled dry dockings, surveys, and repairs on assigned ships, andarranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels beforescheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs Manage vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations;and with company’s Safety Management System (SMS) Analyse ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master andchief engineer; ensures compliance with current charterparty terms of employmentand other commercial concerns Ensure compliance with all necessary operational certification and surveyrequirements applicable to assigned vessels Visit vessels port; may sail with Company's ships to reasonably ascertain that theyare operated in a safe, reliable and economical way Monitor function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problemsolving of on-board issues, including technical, quality assurance, health and safety,commercial or personnel issues Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution Prepare budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships,scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs withinrequired timelines. Monitor expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting andtracks against budget Ensure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and providesleadership and support to team membersRequirementChief Engineer with a minium of 3 sailing contracts on container vesselShould have an experience of managing container vessel ashore for a year
