EDU Powertrain EngineerExperience: 5-12 yrsJob Location: PuneSummary: We are seeking an experienced EDU Powertrain Engineer to lead the design and development of Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and associated powertrain components for next-generation electrified vehicles. The ideal candidate will have expertise in concept design, gear design, gearbox/inverter/motor housing design, and packaging of inverters, motors, and driveshafts. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, efficiency, and manufacturability.Key Responsibilities:Lead the concept design and development of Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and gearboxes for electrified powertrains.Design gear systems, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) performance.Develop gearbox, inverter, and motor housing designs, considering structural integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability.Optimize inverter and motor packaging for space efficiency, weight reduction, and cooling performance.Package and integrate driveshafts within the vehicle architecture, ensuring proper alignment and performance.Work closely with CAE, NVH, thermal, and manufacturing teams to validate designs and optimize performance.Conduct DFMEA, DVP&R, and other validation activities to ensure component reliability and compliance with industry standards.Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure feasibility and cost-effectiveness of designs.Support prototype builds, testing, and issue resolution throughout the development lifecycle.Qualifications:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.5+ years of experience in EDU powertrain design, with a strong focus on gear design, gearbox, inverter, and motor packaging.Proficiency in CAD software ( NX, or similar) for mechanical component design.Experience with gear analysis, NVH optimization, and structural simulations is a plus.Strong knowledge of electric propulsion systems, thermal management, and power electronics integration.Familiarity with automotive industry standards and validation processes (DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, etc.).Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.Strong communication skills to interface with engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with high-performance electric vehicle powertrains.Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes related to castings, machining, and assembly.Understanding of thermal analysis and cooling strategies for EDUs.
