Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Department Manager for our Power System Planning Department. TheDepartment Manager will provide strategic leadership, direction, and mentorship to the team of powersystem planning engineers. The role involves overseeing department operations, managing staffperformance, and ensuring the successful execution of projects.• Manage department staff, and staff workload, and collaborate with Human Resourceson recruiting, retention, training, and staff development efforts.• Provide continuous mentoring and constructive feedback throughout the year and conductmidyear as well as annual performance reviews for the respective team.• Schedule and lead department meetings at regular intervals.• Set and implement department goals, objectives, requirements, standards, and guidelines.• Interpret and implement policies, procedures, processes, and strategic goals of the organization.• Assign, monitor, and maintain work for quality, billability, and efficient utilization of staff.• Prepare manhours estimates for work scope. Hold the team accountable for the workbudgets, metrics, and schedules.• Advise, direct, and/or redirect team members to the appropriate technical resources forthe execution of projects as well as the quality reviews performed.• Develop, guide, and coordinate study workflows, processes, and procedures.• Develop, improve, and communicate project execution and design tools.• Identify training needs for engineers and support/develop training programs for thedepartment. Collaborate with other departments on shared training.• Build relationships and coordinate with Assistant Department Managers, SectionManagers, Functional Leads, and Project Managers in other global practices and office locations.• Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.Qualifications - External• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power System Engineering with a minimum of 15 yearsof experience.• Master’s degree in electrical or power system planning is preferred.• Previous experience with power system planning and operations like power flow studies,short circuits, transient stability, dynamic studies, reliability studies, risk assessment techniques,and protection coordination studies, generator interconnection, load forecasting,harmonics analysis, etc.• Expertise in power system analysis software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP, PSCAD, SKM, CYME,Synergi, DigSILENT, Windmil, MiPower, ETAP, etc.• Previous experience with project management activities associated with power system planningengineer scope activities.• Familiarity with IEEE/NERC & IEC etc. standards• Work experience in North American power system fundamentals will be an added advantage.• Recruiting experience and experience working on US projects.Experience giving and receiving performance feedback for those they work with.• Familiarity with tools/technology such as Pivot Tables, Data Models, Office 365 apps, andother efficiency/data tracking tools.• Strong understanding of power system planning, process knowledge, and ability to developa team.• Familiar with, ISO standards will be an added advantage.• Must be willing to travel internationally.
