Department: Chartering / Commercial Location: Chennai Reporting to: Director (Chartering)We are seeking a dynamic and commercially driven individual to join our team as a Chartering Executive (3rd Party desk, Dry Bulk). The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying vessel opportunities, negotiating charter parties, and developing relationships with Charterers, owners and brokers. This role plays a crucial part in expanding our 3rd party chartering desk and enhancing freight income through effective vessel fixing and market coverage.Key Responsibilities:Source and fix Time Charter vessels (short-term / one TCT / voyage to meet cargo commitments and trading strategies. Proactively identify and secure profitable third-party time charter employment for controlled tonnage, ensuring optimal fleet utilization. Suitable vessels like Panamax, Ultramax and Supramax from the market to cover third-party opportunities. Analyse cargo flows, trading patterns, and market conditions to optimize utilization of time-chartered fleet.Engage actively with the ship owner community and broker networks to identify charter opportunities and available tonnage.Negotiate and conclude Time Charter and Spot fixtures in line with commercial objectives and risk profile.Maintain a comprehensive database of vessel performance, hire rates, off-hire records, and availability.Collaborate with internal cargo teams, operations, and legal departments to ensure efficient vessel employment and contract execution.Monitor freight market trends, spot opportunities, benchmark TCE returns, and recommend adjustments to chartering strategies.Liaise with operations, legal, and in house teams to ensure smooth execution of charter agreements.Maintain and update fixture records, freight rates, and voyage performance data.Support the development and expansion of the third-party chartering portfolio.Attend industry events and networking functions to enhance market presence and gather insights.Key Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business, or a related field.Minimum 3–5 years of experience in chartering, with a strong emphasis on Time Charter vessel negotiations and fleet development.Familiarity with various vessel segments (e.g., dry bulk,) depending on the company’s focus.Deep knowledge of charter party contracts, freight market dynamics, and vessel specifications.Excellent negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, global commercial environment.Proficient in MS Office and chartering systems Preferred Qualifications:Experience in managing a portfolio of time-chartered vessels and optimizing performance.Exposure to freight trading or sub-letting strategies for time-chartered ships.Knowledge of relevant trade lanes, port operations, and regional shipping practices.Willingness to travel and attend global industry events to strengthen market presence.
